Rob Czar: Hey! What's up? What's up? Welcome to ThreadBanger.
Corinne Leigh: There has been a lot of you asking what you can do with your old stockings.
Rob Czar: So when we got this video played, we knew it was about time to help you figure it out.
Female Speaker: Hey Rob! Hey Corinne! I was wondering if you could help with me a little problem that I have. I was on my way to work and wearing my favourite stockings that have had for two years and was walking up the subway stairs and I tripped and my hot coffee flew all over my face. And the beautiful French model in front of me turned around to help me, so everyone was looking at her and looking at me, and I am just so unbelievably embarrassed. And then I get to work and I look down and I see that my favorite stockings have a huge hole in it. And I was hoping that there was something I could make with them because I don't want to throw them away, I love them. Is there anything you can do to help me?
Rob Czar: So to help out we hooked up with Indie designer wabisabi brooklyn for some cool ideas.
MaryAnne LoVerme: My name is MaryAnne LoVerme, and my company is wabisabi brooklyn. And I make decoupage jewelery. I started because I am a teacher and that can be really stressful as you may have heard. So it was stress release for sort of the arts and crafts time . I like to use materials that other people might not think of as jewelery supplies like old magazines and catalogs. Today, I am going to show you how to give new life to your old stockings.
For these projects you are going to need some old pantyhose, pair of sharp scissors, and a beaded necklace. First thing I am going to do is -- these actually happen to be a pair of our footless. But if they have feet on them, just cut the feet off.
So we are going to just kind of one of the legs off, and then we are going to take this leg and slice it up into a series of little loops. You want the pieces to be roughly an inch wide but you don't need to be precise on it. Seven is a lucky number so we are going to stop there. From rest of the piece that we have got here, I am going to cut lengthwise. Fold it in half, cut it in half lengthwise and then do that one more time. We will cut those in half as well. Now you are going to take those four strips and just tie them together so that you have got one long skinny strip. So there you go, that's the length of your necklace.
Now what you are going to do with the little loops that you cut out before is you are going to place the along just the middle section of this necklace, so this back part that you are going to use tie it on. I am not going to tie any of the strips there. And the way you put them on is you lay them on and you just pull it through. And it's probably going to look best if you try to do it somewhat evenly. Put in the middle. You can either leave it like this with the loops intact or if you want it you can snip them open for a slightly different look. And now you are done.
And for another quick project, if you have got a beaded necklace lying around that you are just tired of and some stockings that you are ready to play with. What you can do is take the necklace, I started this one already, I just cut the leg off of another pair of stockings and slipped the beaded necklace in there. And I decided to use a contrasting color but its really your own decision what color you want to use to do the tie up. Start at one end and just tie in between each bead, and I have a French one right here that I made with a slightly bigger beaded necklace. This is the finished product.
