Host: This thing called Bell’s palsy and sometimes they have ruddy eye and it seems that one side of the face is torn down, what is that all about?
Steven Rosenberg: Well Bell’s palsy happens because there are a lot of stuff. That's really when one of the nerve that controls the muscles of the face is not working properly. A lot of the most commonly cases that after infection, you get a problem involves in the nerve. What happens is the facial muscles are not working properly and because of that, the eyes are not closing properly and the eye can dry. And those conditions you want to make sure you keep the eye moist. A lot of times the nerve will recover on its own. If it doesn’t recover on it is own, then the important thing is just to make sure that the eye is kept moist until there is a time when the muscle recovers.
Host: The causes of Bell’s palsy as far as I know are usually viral or can it lead into eye disease, blindness at all.
Steven Rosenberg: You can get from all of those, it can be most of the time, it's after a virus but you can get from eye disease, it can be from things that are much more evolved and it would be much more for other worked up and for other treatment. So anybody with those palsy needs to be work up and evaluated to make sure there is no other findings that would make you worry that something more than just of something was after a virus?
Host: The vast majority just get better on its own ?
Steven Rosenberg: Yes, the vast majority get better on their own.
Host: Thank you.
