Gary Vaynerchuk: Hello everybody! This is Gary Vaynerchuk from Wine Library TV aka The Thunder Show if you don't know. I am seriously talk about something pretty darn interesting. I get to ask a lot of questions. If you have one, email me at garyv@winelibrary.com. I am thrilled to answer all your wine questions but the one I get asked so, so much is Gary, what is the perfect date wine? I am having my first date, what should I buy? And of course, I always answer the same standard answer, Control C, Control V, it's very easy; the role of the most alcohol content in it, of course.
And of course, the little joke on the play with having fun, but it's also my serious answer because really at some level, it doesn't really matter. Does it? I mean obviously a good wine but here is where I want to go a little further with it. Wines as gifts. Many of us have bosses. Heck! All of us have a boss one way or the other. Everybody is always looking to use wines, it's becoming a very trendy thing to give it as a gift. I want to give a very important point that I think a lot of people don't realize what's going on. We are in the technology world now, people. You are watching me through a website, it's video casting. The world has changed.
If you don't think your boss and/or his or her secretary is looking up what you paid for it or how much it goes for, you are out of your mind. So let me give you a real zinger, a secret way if you want to get something great and kind of still look good maybe if you are not spending a billion bucks. It's called going esoteric, it's going outside the box. Everybody gets the same wine; Opus One, Silver Oak, Montelena, Cakebread, Duckhorn, Frog's Leap. Everybody is gifting them the same thing. How many bottles can the CEO get of Dom Perignon before he doesn't know what to do with himself or herself.
So here is what I want you to do. Start looking in awkward areas; Austria, Portugal, South Africa. Try different things. How many ports does this poor person have to get or nice bottle of Single Malt. I think throwing a curve ball, let's make it a left-handed curve ball and coming with wine from let's say Greece or Hungary and giving them something from that area is going to set you apart, feel a little bit different and most of all, God forbid, they might actually like the wine.
