What's My Wine: Enjoying White Wine

Gary Vaynerchuk: Hello everybody! This is Gary Vaynerchuk from Wine Library TV and I was trying to come up with something to do for you guys today. I thought you know what, let me recommend the best bottle of the wine I've had in the last two or three weeks. So I came up with this wine. It's an Albarino. Wait a minute, what? Is this a white wine and that's today's topic.

I am so tired, sick and tired, as they say, of people not realizing that white wine is serious. All you snobby or somewhat knowledgeable wine drinkers or you want to think you are, it's time to realize, and you know I love it. I am jumping away. They say, “Well, I don't drink white; I am a red wine drinker.” What do you want? A lollipop. That means absolutely nothing. As a matter of fact, if you want to get real nerdy and I know what to get nerdy about, I am getting nerdy on you right now, the most serious wine, masters of wine, masters on the inner circles that I have been part of throughout my career, I think of Riesling. That's right, Riesling is the most serious grape in the world, a white grape that many people think is just sweet juice.

So this Albarino, which is an amazing white wine from Spain, is a wine that's so flexible of fruit; it has tremendous lemon peel, meet apples, meets like opening a fresh action figure out of a package flavor. That's right, action figure, I've said it. It really pins down the best wine I have had, and I probably had, in the last 2-3 weeks, 500,600 red wines ranging to $1,600 a bottle, easily in that range. So what I want you to realize, everybody that's watching right now, is that white wine is very serious. Wait till I tell you about Roses, they are serious as well. I think it’s powerful. Don't be scared to pop a white wine, open up your mind, open up your taste and everything will change.
