Host: When will a newly adopted puppy out grow chewing? Kevin Simpson: Well one thing you want to keep in mind is that puppies and dogs chew from many various reasons. Some of them chew because they're going to teething and it’s a psychological need to chew on various textured items. Some puppies developed sort of obsessive-compulsive disorder out of it just through boredom, just itself entertaining just to kind to shred things apart. Keep in mind that it might be the reason that your newly adopted ended up in the shelter in the first place. Somebody wasn’t patient enough to outwait the developmental stage that they're going through. So it’s really different for every dog. Some dogs really never are chewers and some are. I generally tell people that to expect them to chew during the teething process which can start maybe around four months of age and around six or seven. But for some dogs the teeth are adhering to the jaw bones pass the year of age and so that some dogs depending on how much of a additional recreation that they have or mental stimulation they may continue to chew pass the year of age. I would say that’s more uncommon than it is common.
