After four projects in four month, my shop is some seriously bad shape. So, that is what I going to show you today. Some of the things that I like to do in between my projects to clean and maintain the shop.

Welcome to episode 28 of the Wood Whisperer! I am your host, Marc Spagnolo and now is the perfect time to get this shop back in order. Just so that I can mess it up again next week. Now, my Step Dad is usually the guy responsible for keeping the Wood Whisperer shop nice and clean and he does an excellent job. Even though he cleaned up several times over the past few months, the shop is still a wreck.
The finishing bench looks like a tornado hit it. I cannot even see the top surface of my work bench and so does the wood scraps are just lying everywhere. Now since we are in between major projects, it is the perfect time to clean up, organize and do some light maintenance. So let us get to work.
In between projects, one of the best things you can do is clean your table’s old blade. Lot of people think that their blade is dull and in fact, it is actually just dirty so there is peach and resin on there and I have already taken the arbor or where not off. Okay and this is just a forest woodworker too and mine definitely is in need of a cleaning. Okay so that is what we are going to do next.
But, while this guy is getting cleaned then I will probably just put it on the shelf for later and I actually going to put on a new blade. I am very anxious to try those companies out. This is a ten rule blade, it is the gold metal series, and it is a sweet looking blade. Alright, I actually talked to the folks at tenru at the woodworking show in Vegas and I was really impressed with their product and fortunately, they were able to send us a sample.
Now if you remember, if you saw that video, one of the things that guy did was he topped it with a nickel. The show held dead, the sound is that they found a way to reduce that vibration and if you really have reduced the vibration, you should not get nearly as much of a total quality when you top it with a piece of metal.
So I was actually pretty interested in testing that out myself because he has had this little plastic ring around it so it was like, well, of course it is going to dap in this house it got plastic around it. But I wanted to hear from myself so this is the ten rule blade, okay, now listen to the force blade.
Okay that is pretty significant so other than the fact that you know, one is good for making music and the other is not, the fact that it hits that tone means that there is much more vibration in that blade than there is in this one. Also, it is going to be a quieter operating blade in your saw. So I am going to put the ten rule blade in now and before I tag in this guy down, I would like to spray a new blade with a dry film lubricant. This is super lube, I think I got this at Louis.
Okay, I usually just spin the blade around. Just make sure the tip got a decent coating and just helps for friction free cuts. Now, this actually probably does contain a little bit of silicon but people say that that can interfere with finishing. I am too concerned about it because I never really go straight from the table saw to the finishing room.
So one other quick thing is I put the arbor on here, I want to show you how much I tighten my blades. This may not be right for everybody but it works for me, I believe in it. Once I have it finger tight, put the wrench on the knot. Put it in a forward position here and I hold the blade with my fingers and I top the wrench. That is all you need to do to get your blade nice and tight. Now you do not have to wrestle this thing when you need to loosen it.
