Ey my kids started demanding phones from me two years before I ever thought it good for them. So I compromised and waited a year when both were twelve. It's more of a convenience for me than anything else. At least using tracfone is making it affordable. When the girls run out of time, they work. That in itself is quite an interesting juggle between whether they want to work, and use their phones for their own agendas.

I reckon as soon as they're old enough to 'hang' with friends, and when school activities start becoming random, is when it's the right time to get a phone. Obviously I won't be getting my youngster a phone plan like mine, with unlimited from straight talk. Something way more moderate - but there's not a lot of moderate plans doing the rounds.
