When to Test Your Cholesterol

Mathew Sorrentino: Current recommendations Matt, recommend that you should get your cholesterol checked beginning at age 20, it should be a full cholesterol profile it will include both the total cholesterol the good and bad cholesterol. If your cholesterol is normal, then it should be repeated about every 5 years. If your cholesterol is abnormal then your doctor may want to repeated add more frequent interval every one to two years depending on how elevated it is and depending on what you are doing to try to reduce the cholesterol. If you are uncholesterol allowing medications typically we will check it every 6 months to 1 year. So the current recommendations are started at 20 get a cholesterol checked every 5 years if it's normal after that.
