Another great topic for today show, from one of you the question. Hey Joe, when I show up in middle school, and I go through the front doors, well, where do I get help if I needed? Because sometimes you know, you have an emergency, maybe somebody is bugging you. You need to get help, may be you've just got a question that you need to ask somebody, who you know in the office is going to have the answer, may be you just need to get on the phone, because for whatever reason your cell phone is not working, you'd to call mom or dad, or somebody else important.
So you got to know where to go. Bigger than that, you're going to want to make sure that when you get to through front door that the people on the other side are actually going to want to help you.
Now remember, you are one of many kids in middle school. Typically, when people show up in those front doors, the person you meet at the front desk is used to a lot of people be in there with a lot of questions about things that they need right now. That's kind of a tough place to be, because they're trying to answer all of your questions, and get back to what their regular job is. So that can be frustrating for them at times, unless they know you and this is the key.
Before you need help, you need to go in, and introduce yourself. Literally say, hi! My name is, and put out your hand, shake the hand. Make sure you get the name of that person or those people that are working in the front office.
If they know you by name, they're going to be more likely to want to help you with the smile on their face, the next time you come in when you really need something. So that's step number one. Meet the front office staff.
Step number two is you're going to go in, and you're going to say, can I meet with my counselor. I just want to say hello and introduce myself. Okay, sounds like a reasonable request. It is if you know the person that you're asking, they're at the front. So you've already stepped in. You've met the front office staff. The next time you go in, maybe the next week. You say hello Mrs. whoever it is that's working there.
Remember me, I'm. I'd like to go in, say hello to my counselor. Can you make that happen? Can you help me out with that? Sounds you what you're asking. Wonderful! They know you they're going to take you right down, or they're going to let you know what time when you can actually get back and meet with them.
If you meet kind of a brick wall I call at that point, which is for whatever reason they can't help you, no problem. You get online in your school's website; you'll look for your counselor by name. Chances are there is an e-mail address, click send them an e-mail. Nobody is ever going to know, because you're doing it in the privacy of your own bedroom. So nobody is going to know. You don't have to be embarrassed about it. Nobody will ever find out either.
Hey, I'm so and so, I love to come in and just introduce myself, and say hello, because you may not get to meet that counselor right away maybe half way through the year before you get to meet him. This is a critical person, because they can help you when you are in an emergency, or even if you just have a basic question. You got to develop that relationship. That's person number two.
Person number three; while you are in meeting with your counselor, you say, hey! Can I say hello to the vice-principal, or the sister principal, whatever label that go by your school.
That is the third person definitely after me, because that person has a position of power and they can make big decisions. If you know that person, and you have a question or concern, they are somebody who can help you solve that problem.
When you're in meeting with the vice-principal or sister principal, you say Hi! Could I say hello to the principal if you haven't already met this person, because they're at the top.
You need to have that person know your name, and not in a negative way like you show up there and it's because you got sent to the principal's office, not a good place to be. But if they know your name, now you are not just one of many. You are the one that they get to know. Remember, this could be a person to that might already you will have a recommendation if you already need to get a job or volunteer. It's a great person to have on your list of kind of who knows me, that's important.
So there you have it, those are the four real people. Get started, first, second week of school, get on this, because as soon as you develop those relationships, the more peace you're going to feel, the more relax you're going to feel, the less nervous you're going to be when walk through that front door.
