Devin: My name is Devin and I live in Pahoa, Hawaii. My mother has Alzheimer’s and I’ve watcher her memory loss over the years. Is this something that is inevitable for all of us? Elkhonon Goldberg: Devin, I’m sorry to hear about your mother but the answer to your question is in fact, no. Alzheimer’s Disease is not inevitable. Even though a large number of people will be afflicted with it at the age, it is certainly not an inevitability and there are many factors which influence whether or not the one who will come down with Alzheimer’s Disease, genetic factors are certainly important but there are also various lifestyle factors which we are increasing the learning about and the knowledge of these lifestyle factors will help one minimize the likelihood of developing such disorders.
