Katherine Power: And I am Katherine Power. As the weather gets warmer, it's time to start thinking about bringing back your shorts. Now most people think that shorts are only casual, but that's not necessarily the truth.
Hillary Kerr: Today, we'll shake up your assumptions about shorts and show you how to wear them in chic way for both day and night. But first, take a look at a few ladies who aren't short on style.
Katherine Power: Nicky Hilton showed us day time cool in her selection of casual shorts paired with the vest and gladiator sandals. Rihanna went for the leggy look when she paired her shorts with orange heels at a night-time event.
Now that we have some inspiration, let's have a look around and put some outfits together. Many people make the mistake of wearing shorts with incorrectly proportion tops. One easy way to assemble an outfit is to pick a top that has the opposite cut as your shorts. So if your shorts are slim fit, try a shirt with a roomier cut, and if your shorts have a full leg, go for a more fitted top.
Hillary Kerr: If you want to wear heels with your short-shorts, that's fine; just save the look for night. For day, it's better to go with a more modest hand-line or flat shoes.
For our first look, we wanted to show you an outfit that was appropriate for day. Now we don't suggest wearing shorts this short to work, but this is a fantastic option for the weekend.
Katherine Power: The focal point of our outfit are these water blue See by Chloe shorts. The flat front is very flattering and the pocket details make the shorts a bit dressier.
Hillary Kerr: Now because the shorts are so brief, we want to keep the rest of the outfit modest. So we chose a three quarter sleeve cardigan and a python print for the top. Then to finish the look, we chose a simple pair of sandals in a natural color.
Katherine Power: So our second outfit uses this same shorts, but we created a dressier look that she could wear for night. We chose this hip-length polka dot blouse and then put this cropped fitted little jacket over it.
Hillary Kerr: As we mentioned before, if you want to before shorts, this short with heels, please save the look for night. That said we finish the outfit with a pair of black pattern leather ankle booties by Ruth Davis.
