Katherine Power: While many shows in New York Fashion Week take place in the Bryant Park some designers prefer to show an unexpected spaces outside of the fashion district. Out next show took us to West Village Photo studio to see the Fall collection from Katy Rodriguez.
Katy Rodriguez: A lot of my inspirations were birds actually and machines, architecture. As I started digging deeper, I started realizing that a lot of things in architecture around my house, around LA, especially things from the 50s that have that very kind of modern, almost like a little futuristic feeling. Everything from like vases and flower pots to just like architecture of my house. The flip side of it was this very, I wanted it to be sexy.
And I wanted to have this very sort of like a lush kind of feeling and that's when we went with the red and that's when we introduced the patent leather and so it just gave it sort of like, a different kind of sexuality, because I think a lot of times when people do kind of something that's a little bit modern or futuristic it can be sort of maybe a little more cartoony or like mod and kind of sexy.
I wanted to keep it kind of edgy and sexy. I wanted a color that I thought my customers would like and relate to and would be pretty on a lot of different women but at the same time, you know, still maintain that kind of like brightness and that fun that I feel like because we have tried to do.
I love the last dress, it's called the Redhead, that was the dress that really signified the attitude of the collection. We really wanted it to be, strong and feminine, kind of, over some of the softer like more baby doll things that I have done in before and some of the ones in Saint-Tropez.
Hillary Kerr: Thank you so much, it was a beautiful show.
Katy Rodriguez: Thank you. Thank you.
Hillary Kerr: We will have a drink.
Katy Rodriguez: Okay.
Female Speaker: Don't miss the final episode of Who What Wear's New York Fashion Week special. We will meet out with designers Milla Jovovich and Carmen Hawk to see their latest collection.
