Hillary Kerr: Welcome to the Who What Wear Fashion closet. I’m Hilary Kerr
Katherine Powers: And I’m Katherine Powers and at WhoWhatWearDaily.com, we typically focus on clothes but today we’re going to talk about another part of the fashion world, beauty.
Hillary Kerr: With a little help from one of our favorite makeup artist we’ll show you how to take a strong beauty look from the spring run way and translate it into a wearable style but, before we start playing with the product, let’s take a look at the few images from the show that inspired today’s episode.
The makeup that Prada Spring 2008 runaway show included some of the season’s standout beauty trends, the models were given gorgeous nude lips and intense smoky eyes with gold and fuchsia accents.
Katherine Powers: Celebrity Makeup Artist Kayleen McAdams has joined us today and she’s going to show us a more toned down version of this look.
Kayleen Mac Adams: We’re going to start off using a black kohl eyeliner and we’re just going to line the inner rims on the top and bottom.
Hillary Kerr: And how do you do that first?
Kayleen Mac Adams: I just like to do it first that can really work in, I mean you can reapply a couple of times after you’re done if you like, but it does really helps set off the whole look really smoky.
Next, I’m going to use two different simmer eyeshadows, one of more of a bronze, which I’m using all over the lid. And then the second one is more of a bright gold and I’m using Matte in the center of the eye and along that upper rim and that’s really going to brighten up the eyes, bring a lot of light into them. And then on the bottom, I’m using a gray black shadow and I’m just going to blend it in to the bottom lash line, that’s really going to give it the smoky effect.
And then I’m also going to take a little bit of the gold and just put in on top, just to kind of blend it, so it looks a little more seamless and not so harsh.
Hillary Kerr: For this look, you need to out mascara on both the upper and lower lashes or it doesn’t matter?
Kayleen Mac Adams: I like it on the upper and lower, it just adds to the smoky effect.
Hillary Kerr: Is there anything that we should know about mascara in terms of technique?
Kayleen Mac Adams: I like to pick a brush with really short soft bristles because I'm using – get really close to the lash line, if you just put it on close and then wiggle it out, that helps to keep it from clumping.
Now, I’m just applying a little bit of a fuchsia cream blush just on the apples of the cheeks, as you saw in the look there’s a big strip of fuchsia across the top. Most people can’t pull that off. So if you want to keep the same pink color though it’s a good idea to bring it in as a cream blush or you can make the lips a little more pink rather than nude.
When you’re doing a nude lip, it’s always good to choose the color that’s a couple of shades, warmer than your skin tone, so that you don’t end up looking completely dead and washed out. So, I’m going to use lipstick first, just to kind of black the lips, if you don’t really have them, your lipstick, you can take a bit of your foundation or concealer and just slightly cover your lips with it just to bring down the brightness of the pigment.
Then I'm just taking a little bit of pink gloss and putting it on top of the nude lipstick just to break up the color and give it some dimension. Then that’s the look.
Hillary Kerr: Thank you Kayleen and thank you for watching WhoWhatWearTV.
