Hillary Kerr: Welcome to the WhoWhatWear fashion closet, I am Hillary Kerr.
Katherine Power: And I am Katherine Power. Today we're going to focus on one of the world's most esteemed fashion houses, Yves Saint Laurent. Their spring collection is particularly hot right now, thanks to lots of wearable and timeless pieces.
Hillary Kerr: We immediately fell in love with the gorgeous tailoring and elegant color palette, and knew this collection would make a perfect Runway to Real Way episode. We'll show you how to achieve your own version of the look, but first check out some runway images for inspiration.
Female Speaker: The Yves Saint Laurent spring collection was one of the season's finest. The limited color palette was incredibly timeless, while the restraint placement of statement accessories added a modern touch.
Perfectly constructed jackets and vests, paired with slightly cropped trousers or knee-length skirts made up some of our favorite looks.
Hillary Kerr: With YSL's memorable collection as our reference point, let's put together our own version of the runway look.
Katherine Power: The overall look at YSL was very classic and the individual pieces were classic too. That said, it's worth investing a little bit of money in the key items, like sophisticated simple skirts and basic blazers.
Hillary Kerr: When shopping for this look, keep in mind that light colors, white in particular, really highlight the craftsmanship of a garment. Save yourself from looking accidentally cheap by examining the construction before you buy it.
Katherine Power: We really love the mix of masculine and feminine that we saw on the YSL runway. This Rodnik dress has the same doing spirit; the wide lapel, with the simple fitted skirt give her that boxy power shoulder look that we saw on the runway.
Hillary Kerr: As we mentioned before, this look does not require a lot of embellishment, so we just played up the YSL reference by adding a wide black belt and a simple pair of strappy sandals.
Katherine Power: You can also get a similar look by wearing a lightweight oversize blazer as a top. Just crisscross the blazer snugly and add a belt.
Hillary Kerr: We also wanted to give you an option involving pants, so for our second look we found this amazingly chic jumpsuit by SEA. If you don't want to buy a jumpsuit, you can still get the look by just tucking a simple shell into a wide leg pair of pants.
Katherine Power: Once we got the foundation for the look sorted out, we needed to find a lightweight piece of outerwear. So we chose this affordable and well-made gray blazer by H&M. Then to finish off the look, a pair of snakeskin slingback pumps.
Hillary Kerr: Thanks for watching WhoWhatWear TV.
