Alright folks, this is Jonathan here and this is number 15 in the selection of videos I am doing entitled why does a DJ use?
In this one we are going to be looking at this here which is know as the filter button on a CD jack which is all of these goes. Now, just very quickly, on a conventional DJ mixer, you have on a modern day conventional DJ mixer, you have basement and top. Now these control what you called the frequency. Now what I am going to do, I am going to pan close to this particular button and what we will do; we will press play and first of all, listen to the music without using the filter.
Now also on the DJ mixer, the basement will travel a flat. In other words, they are not turned up or they neither are nor turned down, they are basically either at 12:00 if you have a dial or if you have the small sliders there at exactly the middle position where they should be. Now, what I am going to do, I am going to press the filter. Now what we can hear is a very high pitched sound and as I move the filter, you can hear it go to mid and the treble is being taken away where you have met and we will move it further down and now the trebles and mid have gone and we are left with base. Now what the filter actually doing is it is taking away frequencies. We go up, we get the mid then we go higher and we get to treble with this tiny bit of mix.
Now what I want do is to show you because if you have not got a filter effect, I can show you how you can know enough make a similar sound just by using your DJ mix on. I will just going to pull the camera.
Okay, like I said earlier, on a conventional DJ mixer modern day one, you got what is known as base mid and travel. They can be here like this, very small side or dials like this. Now what I am going to do, I am going to turn the actual filter off on the CD jack, play that and I can show you near enough the exact sound you can get by using the three band graphic here or the glow mid high or base mid and treble. So what we will do as you can see, the filter is off there so press play anywhere we go. Now, basically what I was doing, I was moving the treble higher and at the same time, I was taking the mid away and the base away and then what I was doing, I was reducing the treble, increasing the note and then I was decreasing the mid and increasing the base leaving with treble ends as well. So that is near enough exactly the same sort of thing the filter will do that instead of using the filter on a CD jack, if you have not got a filter unit, then you can just the base mid and treble like so. I hope that has been a help but basically this video is describing how to use the filter and what it is use for. And also burying in mind when you use the filter, 99 percent of the time, you will use the treble to beat the effect.
Thanks for watching, practice and enjoy.
