This is video number three in a selection of videos we are doing targeted at the complete total and utter new DJ and these videos are entitled why does a DJ use.
Video number three, why does a DJ use a vinyl turntable which is one of these guys here.
Now, if we go back to the late 50s and early 60s, when the art of DJing almost started, at that point, a DJ did not have a CD player. He did not have a pc program. He did not have any samplers or anything like that. All he had was these guys here 7 inch singles and he had these guys, this is a 12 inch single but then, there were no 12 inch singles in the 50s or 60s. All they were what is known as LPs, long players. 12 inch singles did not come around to the mid 70s.
Why does a DJ use a vinyl turntable? A lot of people will say it is a personal experience. A lot of people will say the sound is more real. The feel is real. The reason a DJ uses a vinyl turntable, is because it is more hands on. Slowly but surely, CD players are getting better and better. CD players are getting more hands on but because vinyl has been around for so long, many people say that vinyl including myself will never die and never go away. This is more intimate. Its touch, feel, hold, the sound, is just slightly rougher, slightly truer, slightly real as opposed to digital sound where it is more crystal, pristine, very few cracks, pops and whistles. That is why a DJ will use a vinyl turntable. It is more intimate.
Vinyl as we speak is still more readily available and it is more hands on and still to this day, the likes of the DMC finals and championships, 99% of the DJs will just use vinyl, I hope that has been a help. Thanks for watching video number three. Practice and enjoy.
