This is video number two in a selection of videos dedicated to the complete and total utter novice, in other words someone who has never even seen gear in their entire lives. This is video number two and these vides are entitled why does a DJ.
In this video, we are going to be looking at the mixer. Before I say anything about it, I want you to imagine this. You go on holiday and you stay at a big hotel. Where is the first place you will go to in that hotel? Maybe it is the bar. But if you think about it, if it is a big hotel, where is the bar. You have got two options, one is to spend all day looking for it and the other one is to go to reception. If you want to know where something is, you go to reception and you ask them, where is the bar, where is the restaurant, where is the pool, where is your room?
The mixer is exactly the same as a reception in a hotel. For example, you are the punter, you are the person that wants to stay in that hotel, you will go to the reception and the reception will direct you to individual places to your room, to the bar, etc. Now then, same principle, your music source as in turntable or CD player or PC or effects, anything has to come into the mixer first and then from the mixer, all the sound is channeled to a relevant place. That is the philosophy and policy behind a DJ mixer.
In other words, when you listen to sound, through a PA, in a nightclub that the DJ has made from the CD players, the turntables, etc, it is not coming just straight from a CD player out to you, that sound has to go through a DJ mixer first whereby that DJ has control over all of the individual inputs. In other words, he will have control over a CD player. He will have control over a vinyl turntable. He will have control over a PC program and all of the control is worked from the DJ mixer, that is what a DJ mixer does.
Thank you for watching. Practice and enjoy.
