Jorn Dyerberg: But we have, during the years, learned that fat is not just fat. I mean, fat is
a lot of things. Fat is fuel. I mean, it’s a high energy food and many of us
know that we should avoid eating too much fat because it adds to our body
weight. But it’s not only fuel. It’s also essential component, essential for
every cell in the human body for its function. And among these fats
essentially are 2 families of essential fatty acids—the omega 6s and omega
3s. And it is so that in the American, or Western countries, we get lots of
omega 6s—corn oil, sunseed oil, whatever plant-based oil we eat, its
omega 6 whereas in the sea, the omega 3 are favored.
Raena Morgan: Okay.
Jorn Dyerberg: So they are far higher in the fat composition of oily fish—salmon,
mackerel, herring and in sea mammals—but we don’t eat sea mammals to
any extent and we shouldn’t because these are endangered species. But the
sea is to eat fatty fish and let’s do the same as the sea gulls.
