Shalom! This week’s teller portion [Foreign Language] in the middle of the Deuteronomy, here is the dietary rules, they are basically repeating from the Leviticus 11, in Deuteronomy 14. But, one of the main differences is that it adds that verse which occurs two other times of the Torah, do not cook a kid in the mother’s milk.
Now, you can say do not cook and kid your mothers milk only means do not take a particular baby go and cook it and eat some mother’s milk. But why would it say it three times and is that really the only issue?
So our Rabbi said no and it is really much more grand way of saying do not eat milk and meat together, do not cook it together, do not, you have to separate pot and pans. You cannot eat it together. Now, why?
Is it will go bad? There is something physically bad about it? No, it has nothing to do with it. It is part of the whole ethical system of Kashwud eating.
God does not want us to kill human beings. And it says so clearly, do not murder but you have to train people habitually. You should see my other video on why we need god, constantly through ritual and education that constantly train people to sanctify life.
And only to do that is by urging that to be a vegetarian as god did to Adam, he is saying to Noah if you got eating meat then even only do not eat any blood. Then Abraham saying, if you going to meat they are lead certain animals. And to Moses even on a certain way and able they are a couple people train to kill them as a way and drained the blood and check the organ and certainly, do not mixed the thing that represents the life which is milk with the thing that represents death which is death flesh.
And when you eat a cheese burger you mixing up life and death and that is the last thing you need to do. So, by disciplining yourself to have separate categories of life and death, hopefully will be able to train ourselves to respect life.
Now, there is certain tricks you can you do. You can get, fake ice cream that is not have any milk products then in you get margarine and it has no milk products and then you get fake meat and have that in your cheese pizza, yes technically you can do all that stuff and get away with it and there is no legal problems usually. But the point is still clear, do not eat the hamburger with cheese, do not eat a milk shake with your having a hamburger, separate them. Now, how long to wait?
Well, let us wait about six hours. And that is because the Eastern European glass of the [Foreign Language] that was the custom in Eastern Europe.
Central Europe was more like three hours and some Jews waited one hour, I do not some to use waited it all. One of the issues is whether it is, the question is that mixing of the stomach, there was a mixing in the mouth?
Well, and there is a big debate about that but the bottom line is you should segregate the two meals, do not eat them together. Whatever you custom is of waiting most many conservative Rabbis wait three hours. I think on another tape I told a story of being on a bus and a toured to Israel with Orthodox reform and conservative Rabbis and we stop to an Army Base and have the meat meal and then. Two hours and forty-five minutes later, we stopped at the Middle kias that sold only ice cream and pop and so the reform Rabbis are do not general pay attention that of meat and milk provision or at least of that time, they went right off and got the ice cream.
The Orthodox Rabbis still had three hours late we are going to getting the ice cream. The conservative Rabbis, you know swear it over, they are waiting and the bus driver got in patient wanted to get on the bus before the three hours raps since we had meat.
So we all kind of decided and grab the ice cream to just in bus was getting in kind of got and in right of the wire and it was kind of an interesting scene about the milk and meat provision in Judaism. But it is actually as it very holy purpose. I am trying to help us remember to respect life.
Do not cook and kid the mother’s milk, it is separate, milk and meat pots and pan and dishes and silver ware. Eat meal separately, kid the food separate do not cook it together and maybe were reinforced constantly the very important idea.
Which is eludes the culture of death and fundamentals Islam today which is blowing up Mosque and blowing up schools and killing people at random. The culture of death versus Judaism which is the culture of life, Pro life and it is most profound sense respect life and we start by doing that by not eating milk and meat to train ourselves every single moment of our life that we have to respect life.
