Why Men Have Gynecomastia Surgery
Approximately 40-60% of men have a condition known as Gynecomastia. Very few of these men understand what this is, or how common it is. Almost none of them will ever talk about it to anyone else. This is the story of three men who wanted to change their condition and their lives.
Kevin: My name is Kevin, 33 years old, born and raised in San Francisco California. Decided to come see Doctor Delgado based on a problem that I feel like I’ve been carrying for so many years which is Gynecomastia.
David: My name is David and I’ve seen the doctor today to talk about possibly having a treatment regarding my Gynecomastia and my condition that has been on my chest.
Jerome: At the age of eight or nine, I remember I was flat chested and then something happened. Then my chest perked up.
Meryl Yost: Gynecomastia is a condition where men and boys develop female like breasts, can be from a slight puffiness underneath the nipple to the extreme 48 triple D and larger breasts. There are certainly many men who wear bras as a consequence.
Depending on the degree of impact how it's handled by family, by teachers, by coaches, by peers will have a great impact on how this boy learns how to deal this or the interventions come with hiding it with clothing all the way through surgery.
Dr. Miguel Delgado: I would say my interest in Gynecomastia first is when I was probably seven or eight years ago. It was really—before it became a really common thing or as popular as it is now. It's cosmetic surgery but it affects these people’s lives almost like a reconstructive procedure continues on this person’s life.
David: The first was just chubbiness and it was just something that would go away.
Kevin: It started when I was about 12 years old or so, it started just one of my nipples getting hard and sore and that’s when I started and I don’t know what was wrong.
Jerome: They just didn’t look right and then there were those that validate it that it doesn’t look right. When I was a teenager I would have done anything I can do to get rid of it. I don’t know what the hell was going on and I just wanted to be normal.
Dr. Miguel Delgado: Gynecomastia is a term that a lot of men don’t know about. There are more eerie things like girl’s tits and bitches tits and all these terms that you hear about or slogans that are really very embarrassing. Gynecomastia is the real term and is eventually male breast enlargement.
You know the point of what we’re doing here is to show the man the reality of this and there are solutions to it that can be successful but there can be hurdles along the way.
