Sun dunes, coastal swap, shallow waters and surrounding islands are paradise for flamingos and pelicans among bird species galore. Welcome to watchmojo.com, I’m your host Leila with the look at National Park of Banc d'Arguin. More tenuous waters are among the world’s riches for fish. They are the Banc d'Arguin National Park was declared in 1976 with the protection of these 4,633 square mile area on Africa’s northwest seashore, situated between the economic capital Nouadhibou and capital Nouakchott land and sea compiles the park 50/50. The park includes third of the country’s coastline. This enormous holding tank is a delta formed by wind and one of the planet’s largest asteroids functioning without fresh water.
The biological nature found here makes this UNESCO world heritage sight. A major winter destination for a wide variety of birds migrating from the north and the largest colonies water birds in the West Africa. This marine resource is safeguarded for its exceptional bio diversity and to allow the regeneration and reproduction of many migratory species of fish, turtles, marine mammals and birds. At low tides the birds have plenty of breeding grounds and when the sea rises, they assemble on islands in groups of many thousands. Using radars that monitor the whole marine surface of the protected zone, patrol boats intercept intruders. Fisherman leaving within the national park contributes to the development of the traditional fishing activity. Continuing to fish with sailboats is they have done forever. The Banc d'Arguin National Park sets a wonderful example of the integration of public policies to the sustainable management of natural resources between a population of Nomatic sailor hoarders, people the government of Mauritania and its scientists.
The park administrations surprised the local fishing community with resources such as vehicles and appropriate fishing equipment. It supports the rule of women in the preparation of fish for the market, education, health, water treatment, electricity and other aid to help recompense the people for their sacrifices. The park is not hope for mass tourism instead it welcomes ecotourism. Bringing with it visitors to have an ecological awareness and who understand the need for preservation of and respect for the environment. Industrial fishing must understand the same thing. In the past, the marine area was naturally kept safe by sand dune and inaccessibility.
Today, economic forces is driving the country such as astral oil development and the European communities pressure on Mauritania for fish, are pushing fisherman towards the protective zone, strengthening future catches and the development of the coastal people.
