Rebecca Brayton: This is one of the youngest countries in the world. Hi, I’m Rebecca Brayton and welcome to watchmojo.com and today, we’ll be continuing our travel series with a look at New Zealand.
Located in the southwestern Pacific Ocean, the country is noted for its remote location. The capital city of New Zealand is Wellington, whereas Auckland is its main metropolitan area.
New Zealand’s population is roughly 4.2 million and residents are referred to as Kiwis. With a total area of almost 105 thousand square miles, 30% of New Zealand’s land is forested and much of the country is mountainous. Volcanic activity is also abundant as the country sits across the boarder of two tectonic plates.
The climate in New Zealand is a temperate one, varying between cool and warm. New Zealand culture is influenced by Britain and the country’s Maori roots
New Zealand is also part of Polynesia. English is still the most widely used language. Despite the fact that it is relatively isolated, New Zealand is an island country that is welcoming to all.
