Steve Turano : I am Steve Turano, Welcome to this episode of Body Performance. I receive this question so much, it deserves another episode. Guys are always asking me Steve, how much protein should I eat to grow muscles and what supplements should I take to speed my muscle growth? Well, you got to be careful and I want you to listen this carefully. Protein and food and supplements don't build muscles. Yes, I know amino acids are the building blocks of proteins and proteins help repair your muscles.
But you can't just take supplements and you can't just take protein and build bigger muscles, that won't happen. Go eat steak for a week, tell me if you are stronger or bigger. You have to work out. It's working out that causes the appropriate adaptation and stress on the muscle. Then the food we eat not just the protein but the foods we eat, the calories we take in help build and repair our bodies. So without the workout, there is no reason to utilize that protein or that additional protein. That protein will simply be used to do cellular repair and normal maintenance on the body, without that workout present.
So the trick is and I do this all the time, I take people, guys who want to train with me, clients who train with me and they immediately start asking me, what shall they eat? What should I take? What should I buy? If I told them to take Cap'n Crunch they would, but in six months, unable to increase their strength on majority of exercises, by one-third to one-half without changing their diet without changing their supplementation, simply by training harder and smarter. That's what you need to do at this stage in the game. Don't worry about your proteins, not that critical. Don't worry about your supplements not that big a deal. The biggest thing is worrying about your training. You are trying hard, you trying heavy and that will make you big and strong, but your body.
