Male Speaker: Welcome to the Serve Progressions section of the website. In this section, we are going to teach you how to learn the serve, how to go from scratch step by step to a fundamentally sound serve. Now, you are going to notice that the lessons in this section are very different from how we presented the serve in the Serve Fundamental section of the website. In that section, we talked about what every single good player does over the course of their serve and we went chronologically through the various steps of the service motion. We started with the stance, we moved to the toss et cetera, et cetera. But understanding what good players do over the course of their motion doesn't necessarily teach you how to do those steps.
So, what we have done in the Serve Progression section is reorganize things a little bit. We have come up with a series of steps that, if you follow, will allow you to build the various important elements of the shot and finally get you to a fundamentally sound serve. So, for example, we start with how your arm and your racquet move as you swing up to the tennis ball in this section but in the Serve Fundamental section that discussion dint occur until much later in the series of videos.
One final point I want to make is that we've left out some stuff in this section that you will see in the fundamental section. For example, we don't talk about the knee bend in this section because you can hit a fundamentally sound serve without bending your knees but every single good server is going to bend your knees because that adds power, spin et cetera to your serve but when you first trying to learn the serve, adding that is probably going to throw off the rest of the mechanics and take your attention away from the steps that are more important when you are trying to build the basics and build the fundamentals of an effective serve.
