WiLife - Tech Review
Today’s inbox question comes from Danny in Mississauga, Ontario. And Danny asked, “I work in a shared office environment, is there any type of video monitoring packages cost-effective ones that I could install myself?”
Well, that is a great question. The technology has come out with number different types of packages and devices out there. The one that I really like it is from Logitech and it’s called their WiLife camera series. This is the indoor master system and it comes with an indoor wireless video camera and all the command center software that you need to get up and going. And the nice thing is that you can actually add up to six cameras all together and monitor them from your computer and also remotely which I’ll show you in a moment.
So again it comes with the basic camera here. You can see it’s got the section cap on the back here and there’s a number of ways to install this particular device and a number of different locations. But once you’ve done that, you basically plug it in to the wireless transmitter and within about 15 seconds it will be up and going so you probably wondering where is this image coming from.
Well there are a number of different cameras that they have in the series and this is one. This is their pretending the clock video camera which is kind of cool. You can place this in a number different locations again because its clock its kind disguise which is not nice and this is a wireless one as well.
These are also motion detecting as well. You can adjust the sensitivity if you like. So, what happen is if someone does go through your office at night for example and no one is around, you can actually set up email alerts and it will send you an email alert to tell you that someone or something has gone be the camera and I’ll show you what that looks like. Since that the right to your inbox, so I mean you could get this on your BlackBerry or if you’re at home, on your desktop or laptop computer and you can see right here I’ve got a few email alerts here. And basically you can click on this link and it will take you to the remote website to see what’s happening and right up here on screen now, this is the website that you would go too. You set up your own account and secure password so that only you can get into it but it shows you how many different cameras that you have online. And again by clicking on one here, it will pop a window in about 10 or 15 seconds it will bring up the image and you can see what’s happening in your office remotely which is kind of a cool thing.
Look at this, here we’ve got it up on screen now and this is again a web-based access so it’s a remote. So you can view these images in video from pretty well anywhere in the world as long as you have an internet connection.
Again, it’s the WiLife series from Logitech, really super easy package to set up and hopefully it will give you some peace of mind.
