Hey, guys, thanks for tuning in, and today I’ll be showing you some of your different options when it comes to survival books and survival manuals. I’ll be showing you these six books right here and they’re all my personal books and I have read them all. I’ll explain a little bit about each book and tell you what I think and for each book I’ll give you a YouTube star rating, so that’s basically it. Let’s get started.
All right, the first manual I’m going to show you is a military issued manual. It is approved for public release and the title is Survival Invasion and Recovery and I’m pretty sure they give this to all pilots and aircrew. On the top, it says army marine, navy, air force, so it’s pretty much for everybody. If you live in another country, I don’t know if you would be able to get this or not. I’m not even sure around the US if this is easy to come across but basically, this is a great manual on survival evasion and recovery, so if you’re trying to evade someone, this would be the one you’d want to get. And it has excellent info, obviously, if the military is going to be using it.
The pages feel like they’re waterproof that would probably make sense that they are but its pretty small and compact, feels pretty durable. It’s got great information, you could pack it in your pack or your bag or maybe even if you have a large survival kit you could put it in there but this is great. I will give this one five out of five stars.
All right, the next book I’m going to do is the pocket outdoor survival, the ultimate guide for short-term survival and this is by Jay Wayne Fierce. This is also another small survival guide; you can put this in your bag, your pack, even a survival kit, a large one. They say ultimate guide for short-term survival because in this book they say that most rescues happen within three days, so basically this is a three-day survival guide. And I don’t like that because it’s possible that you could be out there for a lot longer and—but this book isn’t the greatest. It’s pretty vague, there's a lot of stuff missing from it that other books would have but again this is meant for three-day survival situation. So it’s basically about keeping warm, finding water and signaling, so I would give this book a three out of five stars.
All right, next is the backpacker’s field manual by Rick Curtis. And this book has more to do with obviously back packing and not being in a survival situation but it has great information about everything. First aid, the gear you should bring, plants animals, everything, clothing, food, well actually it has it on the cover. Trip planning equipment, nutrition, first aid, navigation, safety, weather, ultra light hiking, out door leadership and leave no trees camping. This is a pretty good, I paid about 20 bucks for it, it’s a revised and updated edition, so I would recommend picking this one up. I would give it four out of five stars.
Okay, the next book I’m going to do is the SAS survival handbook, how to survive in the wild and in any climate land or sea, John Lofty Wiseman. And this is my favorite survival book, if I had to choose just one book this is the one I would get, it has absolutely everything you need to know in here and SAS is the British Special Air Service and believe me, they know what they’re doing. Again, this is the best book, if you’re going to buy one of these books I’m showing you, buy this one. It has absolutely everything, first aid, plants, and all kinds of survival, different situations, and different climates. Pictures of what should be in your survival kit, explanations, again this is absolutely the best one and I would give this five out of five starts, more if I could.
All right, the next book is 98.6 degrees, the art of keeping your ass alive by Cody London. How to survive fear panic and the biggest outdoor killers, this is another awesome book, this guy Cody London really knows what he’s talking about. He’s like a primitive survivalist but this book has some great pictures of different kits, first aid kits, knives, matches, different things and then with each kit he explains about each one like a metal match or a magnesium bar, your knife, all about it. Signaling with a signal mirror, this is another awesome book. I would definitely give these 4.5 out of five stars.
All right, the next book is the complete wilderness-training book by Hugh Mc Manners. This is another awesome book, this is not just only on wilderness survival, its everything, backpacking, camping, tents, every page has a bunch of good pictures on it, so I like that because you get a reference when you’re reading it. this has everything, first aid, look it even has surviving at sea and finding and preparing food, lighting a fire, dismantling a tent, living in the wild, ropes, sleeping bags, different kinds of boots, personal camp kit, basic survival kit. Again, this is an awesome book, this is right up there with the SAS book but I’m going to give these 4.5 stars, a great book.
I’d also like to note that when you go out and get a book, definitely read it obviously and then go out and try some of the things because you need to practice this stuff. Maybe go out with a buddy on the weekend or something, build your survival kit and use the stuff that you buy so you know how to use it well. Also, like I said before, if you are going to get one of this books, definitely go with the SAS survival handbook but in saying that it’s also good to have multiple sources of information. There’s something in some of the books that I don’t agree with and its good to get different sources of information from different places and then you can use what you think is best. And also I would just want to say thanks to my subscribers and I appreciate all comments and that’s basically it for today, thank you.
