Daddy Clay: Welcome to the Dad lounge. I am Daddy Clay.
Daddy Brad: I am Daddy Brad.
Daddy Clay: And on this week's show, we are going to be talking about how Einstein will make your children more stupider.
Daddy Brad: More stupider?
Daddy Clay: Most stupidest.
Daddy Brad: Most stupidest.
Daddy Clay: Quite stupider.
Daddy Brad: Yes.
Daddy Clay: Actually a recent study from the University of Washington has shown conclusively that watching Baby Einstein and Brainy Baby videos will actually make your child dumber. The result was showing those DVDs to children 8-16 months old for an hour a day results in the loss of 6-8 words from their vocabulary.
Daddy Brad: So, if they watch 10 hours a day, 60, 70 ,80, 100 words --
Daddy Clay: Negative words. Actually it might set their speech back and sometimes in their teens. It actually makes the parents stupider, which has got all the Disney marketers extremely happy. The director of the study said as follows: I would rather babies watch American Idol than these videos.
Daddy Brad: I like American Idol.
Daddy Clay: Bringing endorsements for the Disney folks, explaining that there is at least a chance that parents would watch the American Idol with their children, which does have developmental facet.
Daddy Brad: Maybe if Paula Abdul on there spinning a top and listening the finale.
Daddy Clay: But my question is who really thought that flocking your nine month old in front of the television for an hour was good for their health.
Daddy Brad: Obviously a lot of people, I mean, Einstein is the fifth highest grossing dead celebrity not alive today.
Daddy Clay: I mean other than Don our producer, who actually did that. But he's good, he's good. I am hoping that nobody comes up with a study that says the same thing about college football.
Daddy Brad: No, no.
Daddy Clay: That would be disastrous. Because my favorite technique with the - when my kids were babies, right before nap time, you have got to grab that kid, before it falls asleep in the crib, grab it on your chest, in front of the TV, college game on, kick off, baby asleep, you are absolutely bulletproof. You are honey dew proof for as long as because then your wife shows up, usually she is grumpy, she has got - there you are with the baby.
Daddy Brad: Yeah but watch out for a fourth in one, right here.
Daddy Clay: That's bad.
Daddy Brad: Very bad.
Daddy Clay: You don't want to do that. So, I don't think that study is in the works, which is a good thing, but I don't like these products. I don't like any of these products that purport to make your child smarter or higher achiever or get better scores. I think all that is--
Daddy Brad: It's all marketing man, it's all marketing.
Daddy Clay: It's all junk. A couple of years ago, same sort of genre, same brand, Baby Mozart. They said Mozarts are going to make you smart.
Daddy Brad: The Mozarts are in fact done by a French guy in 1991 said, listening to classical music sensibly make your kids smarter.
Daddy Clay: Total crap.
Daddy Brad: Everybody bought it.
Daddy Clay: Total crap.
Daddy Brad: Yeah. Pretty much, but even a politician in Georgia, Zell Miller, 1998, put a $105,000 into his budget, so that all kids born in Georgia could have a CD.
Daddy Clay: This is like - why are we doing it --
Daddy Brad: A classical --
Daddy Clay: This is crackle bell painting.
Daddy Brad: So you might say how about Charlie's Angels, he said no Mozarts. Everybody bought it man politicians, parents.
Daddy Clay: I can't stand any of these products and say okay, because basically babies are really good at seeking out the stimulation that they need for their brains to develop properly. They are curious, they are playful. I mean, you don't need to go buy something out of a box to make help your baby's brain develop. They are going to get that. Don't lock them in the closet.
Daddy Brad: Flash cards? You don't want to but them?
Daddy Clay: Oh God. Don't get me started on flash cards. So, anyway, what are some things, there are actually somethings that will make your child smarter. There is a couple. One is, your child needs to have smart parents.
Daddy Brad: Yup. That's pretty much.
Daddy Clay: Pretty much tough on Brad's kids. Sorry about that.
Daddy Brad: Probably breast-fed.
Daddy Clay: Sorry to say that your IQ, 50-80% of that's set by genetics, the rest of it is set by our environment. Opinion varies, environment's important but --
Daddy Brad: 50-90%?
Daddy Clay: 50-80%. You probably didn't hear me because you are kind of dumb.
Daddy Brad: I did. So, 20% is --
Daddy Clay: Purely the environment.
Daddy Brad: Natural.
Daddy Clay: Yes, that's what they say. The other that they had shown it has a positive impact on IQ, breast feeding. Nutrients in there, so good, breast feed the kids, six months, higher IQ. Sure proven. Other than that, common sense. Oh! There is one video you can show, that will improve your child's intelligence and that's Due Dads, the man's guide to labor and delivery. Even though this seems like - it's good for parents, expecting parents, great for babies.
Daddy Brad: 100 words a minute, the minute watching that, 100 words.
Daddy Clay: Dead solid lock 50 IQ points up shown in that video.
Daddy Brad: Of course the words are not trying to making any claims but --
Daddy Brad: Like patient consultant, areola.
Daddy Clay: I think that's all for us.
Daddy Brad: Vagina.
Daddy Clay: We hope you have a good luck making your child more smarter, most smartest, quite smarter.
Daddy Brad: Talk to them.
Daddy Clay: Have a good time being more of a parental to your smartest baby.
Daddy Brad: Don't listen to him.
Daddy Clay: That's all for us. We are from the Dad labs
Daddy Brad: Charlie Daniels. Edgar Winner. Have you heard of that?
Daddy Clay: Brad if kids watch that video and like showed up asking grandma for like a bloody show.
Daddy Brad: Or can I see your darkened areola?
Daddy Clay: This actually is not a good video to show to small children.
Daddy Brad: No. But it's for people that don't have small children. That's the point. Talking to bring small children into the world.
Daddy Clay: Is that one using a baseball mit.
Daddy Brad: Yeah. Pretty much.
