Will Neurostimulators Cure My Pain

Male Speaker1: Intrathecal Drug Delivery or Neurostimulation do not cure pain. Sometimes we have patients who have dramatic pain relief, although report 90-95 % improvements in pain, but in general we try to avoid talking about pain cure and we talk about pain control. We would hope that the strategies we used to relief pain are completely effective, but in real life if we can achieve 50%, 75%, and 80% pain relief we generally consider that to be successful.

Male Speaker1: A lot of patients who are been evaluated for implantation of the Neurostimulation system or an Intrathecal Drug Delivery system have already had many surgeries. The most common patients are those who've had back surgeries for treatment of herniated discs or sciatica who continue to have pain despite an otherwise successful surgery. Sometimes these individuals say they don't want any more surgery. They've had enough and it's important that they understand that although implantation of the devices does involve surgery, it really is a very simple and safe surgery. Patients shouldn't be dissuade from considering a neurostimulated or pain pump just by the fact that it's surgery.

Male Speaker2: The best thing is to be able to help people not only just to relieve the pain, but to be able to engage back in their life and because pain can control their lives and would like these patients to control their pain rather than the pain controlling their lives.
