William Shakespeare - Profile

Shakespeare William Shakespeare is regarded as one of the greatest writers in the English language. He was born in Stratford, England in 1564 and died in 1616. Several years after getting married, he moved to London where he made a name for himself as an actor. In 1599, Shakespeare’s acting group, the Lord Chamberlain’s Company erected the famous Globe Theater. He was already a popular writer in his own lifetime but his work became even more celebrated after his death. He is among the very few playwrights to have excelled in both tragedy and comedy and his plays have been translated in every major language. He wrote over 38 plays, comedies, tragedies and histories. Some of which include Othello, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Macbeth and Hamlet.
