Hey guys! It's time for another one of our session. So here we go! This week we are going to talk about window treatment. So, many people do not bother or get around to dressing their windows. And for me, I think that's kind of strange because I think windows are like eyes, there is windows to the soul, this is your view out to the world that you are viewed into that home. You are looking out the window, so why not frame it. It's like wearing earrings. It's just that little bit of decoration that little bit of elegance that you can add to any thing. So don't ignore your window.
First, question comes from Nichole. Now Nichole is the staging her house to sell, and she wants to capitalize on her windows views but the problem is her windows are half-moon shaped on the top and she is not sure how to properly dress them. So Nichole that's tough! We get so many contractors now and so many new builds, new construction homes have that kind of beautiful half moon curve to the top of the window and it does to make this difficult.
Easy trick is to hang above the window all the way to the ceiling, not right up of the window at the ceilings and make it so that it is wide enough. So when you hang two curtain panels on it, you have your window with that's nice little half moon curve. You hold it from the ceiling and you have panels that just flank it beautifully and frame it out.
That way you can ignore the shape. You don't have to get some kind of custom hardware treatment. You are going to get that beautiful frame and it's still a neutral statement that allows a homeowner to come in and go okay, well, that's not the choice they would make. It's not some crazy custom treatment that they are going to have to spend money on to change out. So that's your simple solution, good luck selling the house.
Carol from Florida asks what you suggest for replacing vertical blinds window treatments on sliding glass doors. And she wants something that will filter the break Florida sunshine. Down in the sunshine state, so carol here is what I would to say, I hate vertical blinds with a passion and that they are hideous.
I have never seen them look good ever. I am still waiting. Because it's beautiful Florida and you want filtering of sunlight. I would hang a curtain rod in front of those windows and I will put beautiful kind of sheer white cotton tropical but overstuffed curtains. You are not just going to hang two panels, I will hang four hang.
You really want it to be voluminous and kind of plush but because you are using something that is sheer and lightweight, it's not going to be overdone or over rot. That way you are filtering the sunlight, you got beautiful sunlight in the space without all of the harshness of direct rays. You hide the sliding glass door and you have created kind of a soft decoration moment in the space. Get creative with sliding glass doors is key, and I think if you keep watching 'Myles of Style,' you can tackle a couple of them. So stay tuned for that.
Alright, last questions comes from Teressa. Teressa wants to know, What window treatments will be best for her bedroom. It's a mid-sixties house in Kingfisher, Oklahoma. The windows are 4-inches tall, 44-inches wide and start about four feet off the floor. They are trim but they do not have a marble sill. So Teressa, this is what I would say, it sounds like these windows are pretty much square, all of four inches off of the square.
So if there are multiple windows, if you have three windows in the space, I would hang a curtain route from wall to wall and in between each window and on that edges of the wall, that's where I will let the panel just come down to kind of frame those windows out. So that you really going alright, yes they are square they are kind of oddly shaped, and this way you are turning them into a feature by distracting the eye and saying hey, the point is to look at the color, the texture of fabric that I am using in the window treatment, not on the random size of the windows.
Another solution, and here is something that a lot of people don't do, but I personally love it. I feel like within because they are kind of square, depending on who you are style wise and they don't have trim, why not paint trim in. So pick an accent color that's really beautiful vibrant and trim out the size of each one of your windows all the way around.
Think about like a 4-inch border, mask it off and then paint your color and then within the windows themselves hang flat fold Roman blinds. Something in kind of a Muslin or canvas stone. This is a kind of modern take on window treatment but it allows you to kind of customize what is a strange shape and what can just be just really boxy. So I think, you know what?
