How to make a blind melon cocktail?
Welcome to Common Man Cocktails. I'm your host Derrick Schommer. Today we’re going to cover the blind melon, not the band, the drink. The difference is vodka and Midori rum and Cointreau.
So like again we’re going to go through. We’re going to have some rum, light rum, some Midori a.k.a. melon liqueur, some Cointreau. You could use Triple sec if you have Triple sec so you don’t go out and buy Cointreau if you don’t already have it. It smells so much better. I like in Triple sec to being much like a spray, very lemon, limy kind of sort of taste. This is more like orange peel like right in the grill orange peel. Shaker, cocktail glass, martini glass whatever you want to call it and let’s get started.
We’re going to do is pretty basic. We’re going to have the main ingredients; it’s going to be our Midori. I’ve got second one here I'm still trying to finish it off, so let’s just see if I can do that now. We’re going to do one ounce of the melon liqueur, that’s the biggest of the measurements. We’re going to do one half ounce of all the rest of these ingredients. So we’ll do a half ounce of Cointreau or Triple sec, whatever you have or prefer. Anything that’s an orange liqueur should do fine. We’re going to do half ounce of vodka. You can visit the site if you want. It’s bravespirits.com, brave spirit vodka; $2 goes to the Armed Forces, military, police and everybody who does good things for us here in America.
And we’re going to choose 10-Cane rum. It’s lighter rum, not to just confuse with lighter rum, in general. It tends to be a little sweeter, a little easier on the palate. I don’t know why exactly I think it’s the sugar cane that might be made out of it, whatever it is, it’s just a good tasting rum, so I figure we’ll use that sweet enough a little. Shake it up.
Now, pour all of these. You’re going to notice this is only going to fill this glass half way because I'm into extra large size martini glasses or cocktail glasses, and if you want to fill the glass, double your size or your parts, two ounces of melon liqueur instead of the one and maybe a whole ounce of all the rest. It’s going to pull it.
Let me tell you this is not a drink for the weaker heart. Look at that it’s a very green looking crazy drink, Hanukah hook style drink. You do get the melon taste. You don’t really smell any other alcohol which is just little orange peel action. It is powerful.
If you’re a cocktail drinker who likes the sweeter drinks just sort of just go down really easy. This is not the drink for you. This is right up in your face. It’s not necessarily hard, It’s not sour. It’s not sweet. It’s alcohol. It tastes like rums and the vodkas come through and like a pure ethanol taste, kind of wrapped in this melon package.
It does look innocent, but it is not like a chocolate martini for instance which is like candy. Looks like candy, tastes like candy with a punch, but again tasty it if you’re into a hard or more powerful drink. Definitely you want to give this a try. This is the blind melon. Let’s get one more taste. Wow, and you also know, there’s no ice like you normally do in a cocktail. So that’s it for today, the blind melon. I'm your host Derrick Schommer. Check southern iTunes, search for Common Man Cocktails and we’ll teach you how to drink.
