Mateo: And I’m Mateo, and today we’re going to show you some of the most watched videos from the WinkSound.com studios and community.
Rick: Yeah, and Stoni is back dude.
Mateo: Stoni is back!
Rick: Stoni is back. She will be answering some of your question and Rick Smith stay tuned because she’s going to be answering your question about how to make monophonic samples inside the NN-XT. Which start off with a really cool overview of the combinator. A really cool tool inside Reason, check it out.
Stoni: Hi, this is Stoni at WinkSoound.com. Today, I’m going to talk about creating a combinator. The combinator is a great way to have control of all your instruments all in one. As you can see, I have loaded up in my NN-XT a drum kit. I’d like to get some river of sounds and some dynamics happening with those drums.
So basically, what I’ll do is I’ll create a compressor. I’ll drop the compressor into my rack. The NN-XT automatically is routed into the compressor. So now I have the option to play with the different dynamics in the compressor. But then also, I’d like to add some distortion and put that in there to create more dynamics with my drums. But I’m going to show you guys how we can create this and make it one instrument in a combinator.
You hold SHIFT and you click on each instrument and then you right click and you hit combine. This creates a combinator and it takes your effects, your sounds, and everything you want that creates one instrument which is your combinator here. And that’s creating a simple drum combinator.
Mateo: So there’s tons of videos here on WinkSound.com on music production from logic to curl tools to pretty much whatever you are looking for.
Rick: Everything. I mean if you are searching for a music production editorial tool chances are we have got it. And if we don’t have it you can upload your own. You spill your free profile, upload your videos and here’s some of the most watched videos from the WinkSound.com community.
Mateo: Studio files explains how to uses basses and aux tracks to setup effects in Logic Pro.
StudioFiles: So here’s my voice track up in this area, click and hold on that. Let’s go ahead and pick on bass 10 to be our river bass. Now, when you do that notice Logic automatically created an Aux track with the input of bass 10. Label that river by double clicking the name. We need to insert a river plug-in so that any audio coming to this Aux track will be processed. So let’s just pick space designer, mono stereo.
Now, let’s pick medium space the plate and how about an ice plate. Now by dialing up this knob, we’ll start adding more and more with my voice.
I’m going to show you to do a delay. So use your next—let’s just use the next available box which is bass 11. Now rather than just putting a plug-in let’s do something that’s really cool in Logic. Up here in the settings box click and hold on that, and you can see Logic has a bunch of pretty made delays from the channel strips that you can choose from. Let’s choose tape quarter note dotted and notice how Logic automatically put in a compressor, a channeling cue and a tape delay. Dial up some delay then and we’ll hit play and hear what it sounds like.
So I would recommend experimenting a couple of different ways first by inserting your own plug-ins and using your settings and then also try out the channel strips settings up here because it’s really useful and really quick.
Stoni: Hi, this is Stoni welcome to WinkSound.com. I’ve seen a lot of you have come to our videos and I got a question from Andrei Smith. And you can also write me at Stoni@WinkSound.com. And Andrei I’m here to show you and answer the question about raising a preset inside of the NN-XT. So let’s do the overview let’s check it out.
The first thing you want to do is go into the Reason PREFERENCES and in the preferences in your general page, you will find at the bottom there is a selection here called load default sound in new devices. What that means is, if this is checked you will load in NN-XT with a piano set that is automatically in the instrument ready for you to play and hear sounds. If you don’t want an instrument preset inside of the instrument you can uncheck the load default sound in new devices and it will load the instrument without any sounds in it.
Okay now we’re going to show when you do press load default sounds in new devices that’s going to allow you to create a NN-XT with sounds already inside the NN-XT sampler. So we’re going to double click on NN-XT create the sample. As you can see, there’s a grand piano here already. How you erase the sound when it’s already loaded up in the NN-XT is to select the actual rack, the actual instrument go into edit and choose initialize patch and that will give you an empty rack of the NN-XT.
