Interviewer: How about how to winterized your child obviously again to freeze. How would you dress your kid in the winter?
Interviewee: In certainly you know has the cold weather comes that was remember to take my car in to be winterized. But we as parents an certain pediatricians need to talk about how as the cool to weather it comes. Children and adolescents have to dress differently. Dressing in layers is really very, very important. Many of us is parent have to experience of dressing our children in the morning, they go out to the school and they are very, very hot all day and then they go and the cold weather as they are walking home. So dressing in layers I think is really important making sure that the clothes that they wear are appropriate whether it’s going to be snow or icy today is important to keep them warm. And when they get into a warm place making sure that they know to take off coat, take off there hats and take off the scarf because many of our children will spend the entire day, wearing the clothes that they done in morning.
Interviewer: Playing with your dams and 12 balls and stuff, are you against on this things?
Interviewee: Certainly this danger in the winter time, I’m always worried about the children who was having so much fun in the snow and they slept on the ice and they break or sprain there arms with there legs. But I also worried that has children find winter time more and more of the fun time that they slept and can be hit by cars. Certainly this is the time of year when kids don’t get arrives your bicycle so they will go ice skating for example. Not necessarily with ice skates on there feet. But will go in place is that can lead to dangers entries.
Interviewer: Can you get frostbite in the city?
Interviewee: Certainly as the kids colder and colder there kids need to know something that is frostbite, your ears, your fingers they need to be covered. When the wind is hallowing it might be fun but to out for the first minute or two. But as you use spend more and more time outside the expose the areas of your body as the kids colder and colder can develop frostbite and that is an emergency.
Interviewer: Did you hear about the news of family whose find dead in the morning? What’s that all about?
Interviewee: This is also a good time to make sure that smoke detector and most importantly the carbon monoxide detectors in your home are working appropriately and certainly if you don’t have a carbon monoxide detector in your home, this is the time to go out and buy it. Carbon monoxide is an odorless and colorless gas that during the winter since all the windows in your house are close to keep out the cold there can build up in your house and people can die from carbon monoxide inhalation.
Interviewer: What’s the way in preventing my kid getting flu?
Interviewee: Well I’m a big affected flu for those patients who are worried or those parents who worried those there children look at the flue. It is important to talk to your pediatrician about the flue vaccine. But that is a 100% and those are keep you from getting the flue but just be healthy, eating right, sleeping right, taking care of yourself, keeping very, very healthful in preventing all disease and that’s including a flu.
Interviewer: In the middle of winter they haven’t bed off for a while to drive you crazy, what could you do about cabin fever?
Interviewee: One of the problems in the winter is that we all spend more and more time endorse. Cabin fever is a very, very common condition especially for young children. For older adolescents many of them are very happy to sit behind there computers and surf the internet and spend more time in front of the television. Doing family activities that might be indoors is certainly appropriate and that’s could be a very, very good bonding time. For families to go to places like museums, go to places that can afford a different kind of stimulus. It’s difficult to be outside we all know that but that doesn’t mean you can’t do some things outside. Whether or as long you dress appropriately for the elements or making sure that younger children’s stay stimulated inside whether it’s a new games, new toys and not just sticking them in front of the television until the spring or fall comes can really help all of us adults and parents get through the winter months.
