Hi, I am Vince Clingenpeel, President and Principal at Clingenpeel Properties. Today, we’re talking about how to winterize your home. Today, we’re going to show you how to prepare your home for an extended absence or put your house to sleep. We’re going to talk about the exterior, the security. We’re going in the bathroom, the kitchen, the heating and certainly, the water systems. You are not going to need too many tools to do this. You certainly need some antifreeze, a few simple hand tools. It’s very easy to do. As for as safety goes, there are a few precautions you need to take care of. The antifreeze that you’re going to handle must be held carefully. Read the label, follow the directions.
When we’re doing the chimney and the roof and the gutters, be sure to exercise caution. If you’re nervous about it, if you’re uncomfortable about it, hire somebody. There are people that do that for a living.
Before we begin, let me tell you a little bit about myself. I’ve been in the building business since I was a teenager and my father dragged me out of bed and made me work on his brick crew. I have been a brick layer, a carpenter, a remodeling contractor and now a home inspector and homeowner consultant. Even if you don’t have a vacation home, hopefully you’ll find a few tips in this video that will help you in your own home ownership. Now let s get started with the exterior.
