Wireless Body Transfer System

Nick: Sure, there’s Bluetooth to send files wirelessly but why use that when you can use your body’s electric field. On display at Ceatec, Japan’s gadget night 2 fair, Alps Electric presented an electric field communication module capable or wirelessly transferring data through a person’s body.
Hitoshi: So that is by using surface over the human body, data signal now is going through the body to a receiver. So this is a best technology.
Nick: One application of the technology is using the body’s electric field to transfer pictures from a cellphone. In the demonstration here on Wednesday, Yoshiyuki held a cellphone in one hand and selected an image to send. He then placed his hand on a receiver unit to transfer the image instantly. One drawback to the technology is that it can only send data at 100 kilobits per second, much slower than bluetooth’s 2 megabit per second data transfer speed. The company plans to launch the technology commercially in 2010 and hopes to see its used in a number of industries including consumer electronics, gaming and healthcare.
