Welcome to Common Man Cocktails. I’m your host Derrick Schommer. This week we’re going to cover the Woo Woo. This is a recipe that’s very simple to make, it’s going to have some vodka, little peach schnapps. We’re going to fruit it up with some cranberry juice and put it in a highball glass.
This was something we’ve overheard while at Rainforest café. A couple of people were like, “Hey, what’s in a Woo Woo?” Because they probably got one and they want to know how to make one at home. We’re going to show you how to make one at home.
There’s probably different variants of recipes but since it’s so simple, it seems like a, it’s a solid recipe that you really can’t go wrong with. So what we’re going to use is one and one quarter ounce of vodka, three quarters Schnapps, three ounces of cranberry juice. Seems very easy right? Well then let’s see. Shake it. We’re going to use our shaker.
So we’ll start by doing the vodkas, our bases, we need a lot of it. So, one and a quarter, now you can—I’ve chosen a fairly top-shelf vodka, you don’t have to be like me. I’ve realized that even in a cocktail, you can mix drinks with the low grade stuff and your cocktail will, in the end, be low grade. You can go with medium graded, it will be fine. You won’t really notice the difference until you put them side by side. You can use this, this is Tito’s hand-made American Vodka. I happened to like it, if I don’t have this, this is about $65.00 a bottle, so for vodka, that’s pretty intense. This is between 14 and 20 and it’s great. It’s a very, very clean crisp vodka, vodka schnapps will say “Oh yeah, this stuff is awesome.” It is made in the US, so if you’re a United States’ resident, that might be cool for you.
We’re going to do three quarters peach schnapps. This is a pretty intense stuff, I love it. Put this in champagne, you get yourself a drink. Not that you don’t have a drink already with champagne but champagne and peach schnapps are pretty good. Since this is going to have very little scent or taste, the peach schnapps is really where it’s going to make a huge impact and of course cranberry juice. I’m not a huge cranberry juice drinker but it’s actually not that bad, the peach schnapps kind of takes the edge off the more bitter cranberry taste. Three ounces, ice it up. Crush some ice in here. Shake it.
A little water spill there. Pour it out, kind of pink. You don’t mind a pink drink, this is fine. If your adverse to that style of drink, well don’t drink it, but smells really good, good, really you get the peach right off the top, the nose if you will, it’s all peach. Let’s give it a try.
It’s light. It’s almost as if you use club soda in here, it’s so light. Nice and crisp and refreshing, probably a good sitting by the pool style of drink. Maybe sitting at the bar downtown and Waikiki.
Yeah, there is a slight burn from the vodka. Now, the better vodka you use, the better this is probably going to taste because it’s got a lot of intense vodkas. I think the vodka is where you’re going to get the alcohol punch. Peach schnapps, we’re looking at—I don’t know how much percentage of—15% alcohol, by volume 30 proof, not going to knocked you on your but, and this is I believe it’s always going to be 80 proof, right—yup, 40% alcohol. So that’s really where you’re getting your alcohol, some one and a quarter in there, so it’s going to be a little intense in that way.
Don’t really taste the vodka which is good. Cranberry juice and Peach Schnapps, oddly enough, they work well with the other. Doesn’t sound like something, it’s more sweet and sour mix together but without any limes, lemons, this thing is on it’s own, it’s a worthwhile drink and I can understand why somebody would ask for the recipe, now you have it.
I’m Derrick Schommer for Common Man Cocktails. We’re teaching you how to drink.
