Hey folks. Olly Connelly here at guvnr.com. That’s Olly at guvnr.com if you want to drop me an e-mail. Just a quick chat to explain to some of you folks trying to upgrade your WordPress and getting a bit of an error. If you went to your Dashboard, you all have seen WordPress 2.7.1 or 2.7 something is available, please update now.
Let me try to do that. And it brings you to a screen your set of regular upgrade screen eventually. And it will say ‘Upgrade WordPress’ backup your database. Well, if you don’t know how to do that, you can find that on my site. I’ve got another tutorial about that.
And then Upgrade Automatically. So if we go—go to do that which is much easier than downloading 2.7.l or whichever version you want to upgrade to. You get this fatal erroe ‘Cannot redeclare pclziputilpathreduction declaration.
And so—well, what’s all that about? Okay, well I’ll tell what’s it about. It’s about a plugin. If you go into your Manage Plugins page and it’s down here. It is the WordPress Automatic Upgrade. That is the culprit. It is now a redundant plugin. You don’t need it any longer because you can upgrade automatically anyway. So if you go over here and you activated that—I’ll just let that do its thing.
Okay, so, Manage Plugins. It has deactivated. It’s down here now in Recently Active Plugins. So that is good. And if we go back to our Dashboard—oh we don’t actually have to do that. We can just click that but I’m already doing it. So, I will let it do its thing. Okay.
So, we’ll try again. Please update. And you get that screen again and we’ll try again. Upgrade WordPress. Downloading update, Unpacking, Verifying, Installing, Upgrading, Upgraded. And so there you go. That should all be working.
So I go back to my site, refresh it. We’re getting okay. My search is working. Yeah, that is working pretty good, trying and click through something, coming up with a page. I think it’s looking good. I’ve got all my database stuff working by the looks of that. I’ll go to my comments. Good, okay. So we’re there.
So the bottom line, just to remind you is that you go into plugins. You scroll down to WordPress Automatic Upgrade and deactivate that. And it will be sorted. And you will no longer get this fatal error. You don’t need that plugin anymore with WordPress 2.7.1. Give the automatic upgrade facility without you having to manually pop the WordPress package onto your server.
So there you go. I hope that has been useful. If you want to e-mail me, you can, Olly at guvnr.com. Thanks for watching. Bye-bye.
