I am Steve Turano welcome to this episode of body performance. Let me talk about the biggest waste of time there is in the gym, here it is.
It is core training, I know I have shocked a bunch of people but here is why, core training was invented, I am not sure where or by whom, but the whole principle of core training is you have to tighten your core or something that we use to call or our stomach or abdominals you have to tighten your core while you are working out.
So the principle is if I put you on a non stable surface like a ball or balance beam you are going to have to tighten your stomach while you try to lift a weight. There could not be anything more ineffective or dangerous in a gym that I could think of. It is so ineffective and dumb, I can not believe it.
You are already tightening your stomach anytime you lift any weight; I do not care whether it is legs, chest, biceps or whether you are mowing the yard, vacuuming the house or picking up your grandchild. You tighten your stomach in directly to help tighten your upper body, so my suggestion is this, train your chest, train back, train your legs, train your body and then when it comes to training your core, again what we used to call abdominals, go over and do some crunches or do some light braces.
You do not need to combine the two. Because anytime you are in an unstable surface and you are trying to lift a weight you run the risk of injuring number one, back, hips, knees, elbows, shoulders, it is awful plus you make that training less effective because every time you try to exert yourself and you lose your balance you have to stop lifting that weight to regroup and then you can continue on very, very in effective. Sorry for upsetting anybody. Love your body.
