Would you believe there’s a rodent that can weigh one hundred and fifty pounds? It can be trained to do tricks. Meet Caplin. He’s a Capybara.
These are one of the largest rodents in the world. They’re related to guinea pigs and chinchillas. You like that cherry? Oops, they can live five to ten years in the wild. Now what they eat is mostly grasses. But the word Capybara means “master of the grasses”. People are always getting them confused with tapers, pigs and nutria. Did I say they were big? They can weigh up to one hundred and fifty pounds. That’s almost twice as much as me. Oh aw. It weighs a lot. It weighs about a hundred pounds so you can imagine when my knee is being stepped on, and you can imagine that one hurts.
Capybaras make some really weird sounds like the purr or grand team purr, like a pig swallowed a cat. Did you hear that? Apparently Capybaras are delicious. Everything seems to eat him. Anacondas, jaguars, birds of prey, wild dogs, even people eat them. Apparently they taste like pork. But I much rather play with Caplin instead of eating them.
When a predator is spotted, a capybara will bark to warn the others. Capybaras live in herds. They are very social. That means they like to hang out with other capybaras. Here we go. Goofy.
Capybaras love to swim in water because there’s a thing that’s commonly usual, that they have webbed feet. They are very good swimmers and they really like to spend most of their time in water. They do that or eat. Swimming in the pool is all it takes for a capybara to cool off.
You can notice that their ears, eyes and nostrils are on top of their head. That’s because they could, so they could like see, hear and smell while swimming. In fact they can even sleep while in water. Keeping the nose, just that the water ride.
Capybaras love rolling at the mud, literally. Out with their ears are going like this, this means they’re happy. See? See what I mean? It’s happy.
And now, possibly the best capybara fact ever – they love to eat their own poop! Apparently, it helps to digest tough grasses. I don’t think I’d ever want a kiss from Caplin. Capybaras are native to South America. Oh, you’re just going to leave, aren’t you? Even though Caplin is a pet, capybaras are best left in the wild.
Well, cool creature. Here, you want some? It’s hard to bend down.
