Natalie Butler: Are you one of the two-thirds of Americans that has a weight problem? Do you feel tired all the time? May be you have blood sugar problems. Do you feel hungry all the time? Do you take cholesterol lowering medications? Do you have anxiety problems? All of these problems have something in common. They have something to do with what you put in your body. If you don't like these problems, it's time to wake up and realize that what you put in your body does affect your quality of life, how long you live, how you feel and what health conditions you have down the road. So today, I'm going to talk about fast food restaurants because this is some of the worst food that you can put in your body and it's pretty shocking information, so listen up.
To put this video in perspective, I want to tell you what you should consume in term of calories and grams of fat. Now this information is going to be based on maintaining your weight, so if you want to loose weight, these numbers are not going to be right, you are going to need lower amounts than what I am about to tell you. The average male needs about 2,400 calories per day and that's not to loose weight. He needs a maximum of 80 grams of total fat and a maximum of 26 grams of saturated fat.
So nice, I pronounce it maximum because that truly is the limit that you should stop yourself at. Women is 800 calories a day and again, that's the average so it depends on height and weight and age, so it'll change a little bit but average women needs 800 calories not to gain any weight, a maximum of 60 grams of total fat and a maximum of 20 grams of saturated fat. Now I am going to go over a whole list of common familiar fast food items and I am going to go everything from McDonald's to Starbucks, so I am going to try not to leave anything out but I just want to highlight some of the really bad fast food items that are out there and people are eating these every single day.
Now let's start with McDonald's. It is the Big Mac Value Meal with a medium fry and medium drink has 1,130 calories. Now if you are a woman and you are trying to just maintain your weight, you need about 800 calories, that's an average. So in that one value meal, you are getting almost all of your calories for that one day just in one meal and you only have 700 calories left, so that's not a whole lot dispute between breakfast and dinner or whatever other meals that you have left in the day. Now if you are a man, 2,400 calories is the average, you're getting almost half of your calories in one day. Just splitting that between breakfast and dinner and not including snacks, that's difficult to be able to maintain your weight and still pull off eating at fast food restaurants.
Next is Pizza Hut. Pizza is an American staple. Pizza Hut has just come out with a new type of Pizza; it is the Double Deep Dish Meat Lover's Pizza. One slice has 580 calories and 36 grams of fat. Now that's just one slice, the typical pizza consumption is around three slices, that is 1,740 calories. So if you eat three slices of this Pizza and you are a woman, you've gotten all your day's worth of calories. So no wonder you are having a hard time loosing weight or maintaining your weight, especially if you are eating food like this. If you are a man, obviously 1,740 calories for three slices of pizza, that's on the majority of your calorie for the day, again that's way too many calories to get in one meal.
Onto the next one, Starbucks. So you've just had your lunch and you are kind of feeling tired and lethargic in the afternoon and you decide to go get something to pep you up so you drive through the Starbucks drive-through. And because it's the holidays, you decide to order a Venti Eggnog Latte. Well, it won't burst your bubble but the Venti Eggnog Latte has 630 calories and 30 grams of fat, so your 30 grams of fat, you are already to the half way point from the total fat for the day. This is probably considered a snack or a little treat but getting a drink like this, you got to have to view it as a dessert because they have so many calories and so much fat in them that if you don't take that into account, then it's going to be really easy to overeat and get over your calories for the day.
So you ate McDonald's yesterday and you're trying to eat a little healthier today, so you decide to go to Schlotzsky's and get a turkey sandwich. You know that sounds healthier, it sounds better for you. Well, the medium turkey sandwich at Schlotzsky's without the chips and a drink has 815 calories. Often times people are going to get something to go with their sandwich, so you really do have to kind of add the calories that are with that chips and drinks, so you are getting over 1,000 calories for one meal. What's so sad about this is that you would think that this would be healthy but the bread on these Schlotzsky's sandwiches are fried, so that's going to add a whole lot of calories that you weren't may be even thinking about. So over 1,000 calories for a healthier sandwich, you know you got think again.
So you had Starbucks and you are feeling kind of guilty, so you want to kind of make it up and so you decide to go to Jamba Juice and get a Peanut Butter Moo'd Smoothie. Well, the 30-ounce smoothie contains 1,170 calories and 30 grams of fat. So little did you know that a smoothie that you can drink within an hour and you know you think it's healthy and you think you're making a better decision, actually has more calories than that sandwich that you got at Schlotzsky's. So you got to kind of think about what you are eating because all that peanut butter adds a lot of fat. If you are getting not the small, if you are going for the larger sizes, then of course that's going to be way more calories to you.
Next is Quiznos. So you're pretty hungry and have a lot of time, you decide to stop in and get a Large Classic Italian Sandwich and not realizing that it contains 1,520 calories and 92 grams of fat. Now if you are a man, that is 12 more grams of fat than you need for the whole day. Then if you are a woman, you are getting a third more grams of fat than you need in the day. So you got to think again because although it may sound healthier, it won't necessarily be healthier.
So you are feeling like you want to get some ice cream, something sweet, so you go to Cold Stone Creamery and you get the Founder's Favorite. Well, this has 1,740 calories; it has 48 grams of saturated fat and 4 grams of trans fats. So saturated fat, that's double what males and females need for the whole day in just a single ice cream serving or what they call a single ice cream serving, it's actually equivalent to five single scoops of ice cream cones. So you got to think again. If you're willing to go splurge and get some ice cream, this is not the kind of splurge to have on a weekly basis, because this is really going to sabotage your health goals.
So you're going to Chipotle today. You are trying to eat a little bit healthier, so you are not going to go McDonald's and eat the bad fast food, so you go get your burrito and you want chicken and you put beans and rice on there and cheese and sour cream and tomatoes and salsa. Well, all that equals 1,307 calories in one Chipotle burrito, you are getting, if you are a woman, more than half of what you need in the day and you only have 500 calories left to split between meals, if you are guy and you are getting again more than half so around half. So no wonder we're having problems with weight issues when we are in places like this.
So you've just watched the video and now you are thinking, oh gosh, all those things I can't eat, what should I eat? Well, I have made a few other videos that would definitely be good to watch. One is called whole foods versus processed foods and another one is called super foods and those are the best possible foods that you could eat. So watch those videos, it's going to give you some really good information. Now if you are a person that is eating these types of foods that we just talked about, these fast food restaurants and you have health problems, you have to pay attention to what you are putting in your body because that is determining how severe your problems are and what is going to happen in the future.
If you are at a restaurant and you can't decide what choice is better and you are not sure how to make that decision and you are not sure how to do read the nutrition fats that they have at the restaurant or the fast food place, I do have another video called nutrition facts and that may help you be able to distinguish the better choice but you really just do have to pay attention to what you are eating and what you are putting in your body.
Now I know, you're going to the fast food restaurants, you're just trying to hurry up and get something to eat, you are hungry, you are tying to get filled up and now you know for when we've talked about that you are getting way more calories than you need and yet you feel hungry in a few more hours, so why are you always hungry? Well that's a really good subject, I am glad you brought that up.
