Wrinkle Free Shirts
Better
Audra Lowe: (Better) There’s nothing more annoying than putting on a wrinkled shirt in
the morning you know you don’t have time to iron it. You certainly can’t
bring it to the dry cleaners and you try to press out the creases but nothing
is working in your favor. Does that sound familiar to you? Well here to
help solve your problems are your husbands for that matter and show you
the best shirts that are wrinkle free is Deputy Editor of Shop Smart
Magazine Sue Perry good to have you back Sue.
Sue Perry: (Deputy Editor Shop Smart Magazine) Thanks for having us.
Audra: Always over there doing that investigative research.
Sue: We are and we did it on men’s dress shirts this time.
Audra: Now you guys shop for certain types of shirts that really stood up to the
claim of wrinkle free, right.
Sue: Wrinkle free and we took 5 popular brands that people can find all across
the country and 100% cotton, men’s dress shirts.
Audra: You got a lot of flaws that people wouldn’t normally pick up on, right?
Sue: You know what we did, we did but we found a clear winner we found a
clear loser and then we found some in between.
Audra: Yeah we’re going to do the best, the worse and the, huh their okay type
shirts. First of all we’re going to start off with the best choice not an
expensive one either, right.
Sue: No, 25 dollars and you know what it is, it’s from JCPenney. It’s their
Stafford signature line 100% cotton really nice shirt and 25 dollars and it
comes out of the wash. What we did let me just tell you what we did with
our text.
Audra: Okay.
Sue: We washed and dried them 5 times kind of you know simulating was and
wear that you would have, normal wear and tear that you would have at
home and the reason just 5 times that’s when you can tell when your thing
is going to go wrong.
Audra: Right.
Sue: So that was our cut off point. We also look for construction details and
flaws in the shirts and what we found in this shirt, it’s well constructed, it
came out of the dryer after the 5th time perfectly fine, you could put it right
on and it has this what was the only shirt. Let me find it.
Audra: Oh there it is.
Sue: There is this really neat little construction detail. This is called a gusset
and it’s this little triangular piece. What it does is it keeps the seams from
falling apart so this is a really well made shirt $25.
Audra: Not bad.
Sue: Not bad.
Audra: Okay so now we’re going to go to the okay category. There are three that
fell under this particular category, the first one was the Lands’ End Oxford
Shirt.
Sue: Yes the Oxford Shirt which is actually I mean you know a pretty popular
brand a lot of people like it but you’re going to have to get your iron out
with this one. After it comes out of the dryer, after the washing and drying
it still has some wrinkles in it so but well constructed shirt.
Audra: Okay.
Sue: But it looks $40. It’s $40. It’s almost you know twice as much as an AC
Penny shirt but well and if you don’t mind a little more ironing which is
no it’s not totally wrinkle free.
Audra: Which we wish, right, the next one was from Coles $30 for this one.
Sue: Yes $30 for the Coles and what we found with Coles is it was fine out of
the washer and dryer, no wrinkles so on that point very good but after the
5th washing and drying it had little fuzzy patches on it and that’s a sign of
peeling and once it starts peeling your ready rag.
Audra: Not good. Okay now this one had some interesting little marks on it. This
one came from Macy.
Sue: This is Macy’s Club Room again it’s $30 and the pulls was $30 as well.
$30 shirt but what happened with this shirt is that it had a little white dots
all over it after the 5th washing and what that, that’s the sign of is fabric
breaks and weaving flaws and that can lead to tiny little holes in your shirt
ready for the rag pile.
Audra: Not good.
Sue: Not good.
Audra: Speaking for ready for the rag pile the worst the shirt is this one here.
Sue: Kirkland from Costco, we love Costco for all kinds of things but not their
shirt. We really found that it had a major construction flaws. I mean you
can just say see how it buckles right there. No man is going to want it
maybe your tie is going to hide that but that’s not nice.
Audra: And also I have notice too this one was $17 for 8 bucks more you can get
the what you guys consider the best shirt too.
Sue: Exactly,
Audra: Oh gosh a lot of good information thank you so much Sue good to have
