Hello everyone and welcome to geekologist.net, your weekly technology forecast. And today, we’re going to be talking about Twitter for comedies or organization. Well at least, what I think of it. The service is called Yammer and you can get there at yammer.com or as you can see on the supportive form data that I'm running at yammer.com. This is like I said a Twitter for your business and the really cool thing about this is, is that as long you own a business or having an organization that uses a localized address such as U@yourcomedy.com, then you can use the see on the service to collaborate with your fellow employees. So it’s kind of like a virtual water cooler, you know you can post updates like you would on Twitter but allow it to be able to be viewed by your colleagues and you know it allows—it has really cool tools to let you manage tasks, manager other employees if you’re the boss. Or you know even send messages to your boss when you completed some of the work that he has requested you to do.
Now, as simple as it could be is the set up, you have the Join your company network type in their email address, so support like geekologist.net or geekologist.net or whatever email address maybe at dot whatever. And then click join, once you did that, it will send you a confirmation email. Of course, I've already gone through the set up, so we’re going to go ahead and just login, so keaton@geekologist.net, type in on my password and I want to give you a brief overview of the home page. So when you got logged in, you're going to see everyone who’s on your network. So I have John and David that are on my network and we can see all their updates. John said hello to everyone about seven minutes ago.
And there’s different things, feed, sent, received kind of like Twitter is. You can see all the members of your network and you can see the groups if you have any groups for your business or your organization. Which is really cool because, if you wanted to add a group for say for example Development, you can have a group for development, or if you wanted to have a group for say for example I don’t know Billing, you can have a group for billing. And it really allows you to really collaborate with your colleagues quite easily. You're going to invite people, there’s also applications for desktop applications for both Windows and Mac and Linux. You have BlackBerry applications for your BlackBerry device and iPhone application, and the Firefox Extension. It’s really cool. You can be able to access this anywhere unit that you have in an internet connection more or less along with the web interface.
So moving on, we’re going to talk kind about the desktop interface. So if I can get John to actually update or send a message basically with that, he’ll post an update and the client—which the minimum amount of time that the client can actually refresh is every 30 seconds. So hopefully here in a minute, John will see John’s update and be able to send one back to him as a reply and it’s really, really cool. I mean, the interface is very sleek, it is a Adobe AIR App, so it is a cross platform and can't talk to me. And basically you know, my perspective is, is if you have a business, you want an easy way to collaborate and you want to be able to have an efficient water cooler, that virtual water cooler in your business, this is the way to go. Small business, large business, medium-sized business, any type of organizations that you have that have a localized or an, at your business or your organization or your collaboration.com.net.org, whatever it may be, this is definitely an application that you need.
Twitter for those business consumers, being able to make it private, so that that information is secure but also being able to have a wave to really collaborate and allow your employees to collaborate with each other to provide more efficiency. Because, when it really comes down to a business perspective or you know being somebody who is running a business, if you can engage your employees to talk to each other and engage your employees to collaborate with each other efficiently, it’s a much, much better experience as far as the business goes.
Because you will find innovators within your business, you'll find people who learn new ways of doing things and using the Yammer and being ahead of the curve is that really something that is going to help your business grow. So if you do own a business, have an organization, one of this related collaborate, check out Yammer.com.
