Hi! I am Dina Prioste, and welcome to Get Exercised. Today we are going to do a side stretch that feels fantastically awesome, but with a not so sexy name Gate Pose. Gate Pose. May be you can come up with better name for it.
You are going to start with your left knee bent and the left shin and put on the floor with a foot pointing directly behind you. If your knee is sensitive please place a blanket underneath like I did.
You are going to take the right leg, straight out to the side, you can have the toes turned in or you can have the toes pointing out to the side; that's less comfortable for me so I am going to turn the foot in and really have the foot flat on the floor.
From here take your right hand to your right leg and sweep the left arm over for a nice stretch, and to deeper the stretch you could look up under the left arm. Gate Pose, not a sexy name. It should be called Drag and Tamer Pose, that's right beeyoch!
Now I am going to take it over to the other side, bring your left hand down to the floor so it's in line with your left knee. Now sweep your right arm over, look up under the right arm.
Imagine a long line from your right foot all the way up through the right hand. Gate Pose or Koala Pose. Oh, Koalas, they are so cute! This pose is a great side stretch to help for deeper postures that we are going to get into later on. It's also a great way to wake up in the middle of the day or President of the United States Pose.
Have I mentioned how much I love yoga? I just feel so good. Call it what you want, a Gate or Koala side stretch is a great way to stretch out and open up and get more oxygen into your system, that's probably why it's called Gate Pose because you are opening up.
