Casey Bass: Today on Club house gas, coach Dewi Hardman is going to join us and he is going to give us some drills to help your child improve their ball skills so today soccer drills on club house gas.
Dewi Hardman: Hello good afternoon. My name is Dewi Hardman, I am one of the coaches here at Tophat Soccer Club. We’re going to put these two players Lexy and canlideomen from a little bit of technical work to make them a little bit more profession and better with the ball at their feet, these are very important skills to have when you first start out in troubling soccer. What we’re going to do to start with is foundation, so we want to move the ball between our feet nice and quickly, can we do that? So we move the ball nice and quickly between our feet, we try and get a little bit of rhythm. And then as we get better, we trying go faster and faster, can we go faster? Leave yourselves a little bit of space and go faster and faster and faster, there we go, and relax there. Now if you could just dribble the ball going inside, outside, inside, outside of your right foot only, go. So now we get them to use their foot to dribble the ball, just any way you want, keep moving around, good, inside, outside, inside, outside. So they’re getting use to the ball on different surfaces of their feet.
Now, that’s good dribbling. If you could go inside, outside, and then roll the ball with the soul of your foot, go. So again, different surface we want them to use so they’re going inside, outside, rolling the ball with the soul of their foot, so they get a better touch and more comfort on the ball. Good, and now relax there. If you can go inside, outside, inside, outside, inside, outside, inside, outside, ready? Give yourselves a little bit of space and go, both feet, inside, outside, inside, outside. This is also very, very important that we try and get them to use both feet so they become comfortable using left and right foot.
So we get them go inside, outside, inside, outside, just relax, keep going inside, outside, inside, outside, both feet, good, there we go, and relax there. Foundation again , foundation again -- quickly with foundation. What I want you to do now is, roll the ball and step over it, roll the ball, step over, roll the ball, step over, roll the ball, step over. So here we have a little bit of a move to try and pull people little bit of a fake, and it’s called a step over. So we’re rolling with one foot, we step over with the other. Come on, alter a little bit. There we go, same thing again, foundation, foundation, roll it, step over, foundation, foundation, step over. Now as we step over, can we then pull it back again and catch it? Go ahead quick. So again, we’re just trying to add a little bit of difficulty to it, keep going, foundation, foundation, roll it, step over, pull it back and catch it again. So all we’re trying to do is add a little bit more complexity to the move so that they become more comfortable with the ball. Good and relax there.
If you would now one ball between two, that I have want to be on this line here please and want to be on the other blue line over there. Age appropriate for these players is to learn to play with each other. So what we were showing you so far is an ability to do with the ball on their own. Now when we play soccer we play as a team so we must pass the ball to each other. So if you could use one ball please, put that ball behind you. Two touch passing to each other, touch play, receive it, let’s move the other balls out of the way please. Receive it, pass it, receive it, pass it. So we get them to control the ball and then pass the ball to each other. We are looking for 2 important things here and that is the right pace so that they can control it and then we’re looking for accuracy so we pass it where we want.
And again we talk about technical ability, controlling our foot and I have a nice solid surface to pass the ball, okay and relax there for a second. If you could, can you show me how you pass the ball? We have our leg bend, our toe up, and our heel down, and that gives a nice solid surface to pass the ball, ready? Go again. So we control it and we pass it, we control it and we pass it, we control it. And again we trying use both feet.
We control it and pass it, we control it and pass it. We try not to let the ball stand still because in soccer it’s a game of movement, and we’re trying to always move the ball. If you could, please go just in this area here, control the ball, pass the ball, two touch together, ready? fine, so you can move anywhere you want, after you pass, you move into a new space. So they pass it and move, nice and firm on your pass, two touch please, pass it and move, pass it and move. We want them to try and stay as close as they can. Keep moving, control it, pass it. Now we have to get the idea of passing it into where somebody is running on move. Keep moving after your pass, good and keep moving, good, and keep moving, good, there we go, that’s good, and keep moving, good and stand there.
Last thing you want to do. At this stage, the ball doesn’t get into the air too much but we must start addressing the idea of dealing with the ball as it comes from the air. So if you want to be, you can pick the ball please, the other one can stand just facing something over here, a little bit closer please. All we wanted to do is throw the ball up, can you volley it with the inside of your foot right back to your partner? ready go. So we look to try and hit the ball out of the edge and just relax on your toes, it on your toes, there we go, we get a nicer bounce in our step, we get lighten our feet, we throw it up, we volley it back and we try and catch it. How many row can we can get catching it? one, two, there we go. Can we get five in a row? What do you think? what do you think? Five in a row? Switch, ready go. On your toes, just relax. Again we got to keep our ankle up, toe up, just lighten your toe, lighten your toe, one, two, on your toe, it’s three, four, stay on your toes, on your toes, five, well done, okay, time.
As you just seen, we showing you three different aspects of the game of soccer the players of this age should be dealing with and that is technical ability, ability to dribble the ball, keeping the ball at their feet, being comfortable with the ball at their feet. Number two, simple passing the ball so they can pass and control the ball. Then number three, starting to learn to deal with the ball out of the air so they’re not scared of the ball, they are able to get a surface on to the ball to play it out of the air. As they get older, the ball will be in the air more, so it’s an important thing to learn at an early age. Thank you very much you two, appreciate it. Alright, bye now.
