So we've have tested the all new 2009 Corvette ZR-1 and men we are impressed. The massive carbon ceramic brakes provide incredible stopping power, and the grip is extraordinary, 1.10G, but without doubt the Corvette's most compelling feature is its engine. 630 supercharged V-8 horses. That kind of power makes for incredible straight line performance, but what the world wants to know is just how fast is the ZR-1 in a straight line.
Well, conveniently we just happened to have three of its fiercest rivals sitting near by. The 612-horsepower V-12 Ferrari 599 GTB, the awesome 480-horsepower four-wheel-drive Nissan GT-R and from Germany, the Herculean 530 horsepower rear engine Porsche GT-2.
Put four cars at this caliber together and only one word comes to mind, Drag Race. Not surprisingly, the old little drive GT-R gets the best launch off the line, but then the more powerful 530 horse GT-2 pulls ahead. Very quickly though, it becomes a pure horsepower race, the Ferrari and the ZR-1 pulling into the lead.
Longer the race runs, wider the ZR-1 need pure horsepower. 50 horsepower down from the next most powerful car of the group, the GT-R falls further behind. At the finish line, it's 638 Horsepower Corvette ZR-1 out front. Follow quick behind by the 599 and then the GT-2, and then comes the Nissan GT-R fast but no match with this hyper powered group.
