iBlogger - iPhone App Review
Attention Bloggers, can iBlogger for the iPhone make you a better, more dedicated updater? Find out on today’s App Judgement.
Hi everyone, it’s Annie and welcome to another App Judgment, Revision 3’s mobile application review show. Do you have a blog? Do you by any chance not update that blog as much as you would like? You are not alone. In fact, studies have shown that only a small fraction of existing blogs ever get updated. My own blogger account is a graveyard of sites I started on a whim and never update. So I went ahead and bought iBlogger in the hopes that it would help me update my two semi-active blogs more frequently and on the go.
It is expensive but my past experience with IMF’s thought me that if it’s o10 bucks, it must be great, right? Let’s find out. What's great about iBlogger is that it supports a bunch of platforms including Blogger, WordPress, Squarespace, my favorite and many others. I use both Blogger and Squarespace, so this is an indispensable feature for people like me who have a couple of different accounts. It’s very easy to add an account. You just type in your login information and once you have it setup, iBlogger shows you a simple list of all your posts which you can edit and view in your browser. When you create a new post, you have the option f uploading a pic from your photo library, adding a link and tagging your post as you would in a normal blog, sounds pretty straightforward. But is it worth showing out 10 bones?
With the ugly he said, she said bickering between Apple and Google still tangled up, Vonage is snucked in and just released a VoIP app for both the iPhone and Blackberry. The app is free and offers low cost international calling rates. It works with your existing mobile plans so all of your contacts and numbers stay in tact. Now just setup an account and pay as you go. Currently, the iPhone app works on both your cellular network and WiFi. Blackberry users can only use it on a cellular account and iPod Touch users can only use it over WiFi. If you're using it, let us know. And here’s one more freebie from me, check out iMotion from Febo Studio, your iPhone camera will be turned into an instant stop motion studio. Once you take the consecutive photos, you can email the file, save it or export the photos to iPhoto. Now, here’s my seriously bad creation using my stuffed dog Rufus. I know you can do better. Now I only wish it would generate a .mov file, maybe in a future update. Hey it’s still a lot of fun. It’s free now until October 20th so, get it now. Now back to Annie’s judgement on iBlogger.
So, today we’re looking at iBlogger as a way of updating your blog using your phone. The basic setup is all fun and good. But I was frustrated to discover that there seems to be no way of embedding video, which is important to both my blogs, your baby’s name and just the good news. So if I come across a video that I want to use, the best I can do is find the link and post it, a cumbersome process and links look like crap. I found the same frustration with posting pictures, which you can only upload from the photo album on your phone or using your camera. So again, if you want to post pics from an outside source, you can only link. And there’s no way of resizing or aligning the photos.
So to recap here, the pros and cons. iBlogger supports a variety of accounts that has a simple, easy to navigate design and uploading process for personal pictures. But, it’s functionality is way too limited for the $10.00 price tag, no video, limited photo capability, only clumsy links. So iBlogger could be fine for a personal blog thatyou use to share brief, mundane details of your daily life with personal pics and links. But nowadays, I think that’s a Twitter score. So I was dissapointed with iBlogger considering the hefty price tag and will recommend that you do not download. Instead, you may want to check out the app for the specific platform or platforms you use, many which are free.
