Part five of ten: Browsing the iPad App Store
Male Speaker: Hi, this is Enmore Christopher with you butterscotch.com tutorial serious on using your new iPad, iPad 101. Now today we're going to take a look at browsing the App store and downloading new applications. Now the App store icon is the one that I'm pointing to right here and it appears by default on the first home screen of your iPad. You can see here we have a little notification badge, that's a notification badge letting us know that applications we have downloaded and installed have updates available for them, we are not going to install those right now. So you just tap on the icon to launch.
Now you can see by default we end up in the featured section of the iPad App store, so we can see here some new apps that have been that are being highlighted, you see here are some advertisings for different apps that are available for the iPad. We also have staff favorites along here which are apps that the iPad crew have selected from in amongst the 150,000 applications unless you work on the iPad as being worthy of have a look.
We can also see across the bottom here if we scroll to very bottom of the page we have access to the App of the week the iWork suit, which will get into another episode of this tutorial series. We look at games, news, sports, entertainment we can also access our account to do things like change our email address, add a credit card, change our password or we can choose to redeem and iTunes card that we have or if we are having an issue with in the application or using the store general, we can click on the support to get some help from the iPad people. You can see across the top here we have the cover flow style interface to have a look at some of the applications that being featured.
Across the bottom like I said we are currently in the featured, we can also see the top charts, so in this case we are seeing top paid Apps on the right or left and top free Apps on the right. You can see here we've already downloaded and installed the top two applications in the free Apps list. So what will do is we'll just going to scroll through and see if anything catches our interest if it does we can tap on it to download and install. So in this case we just quickly grab the USA today for iPad application. Now you can see its going to start downloading here at the status bar will alert us when the download is actually finished and we can then launch the application.
Now we can also browse if we are not seeing anything in the top applications listing that's really of interest to us, we can also tap on categories and browse the app store by choosing what we are looking for. So let's say we are looking for a productivity application tap on productivity and we'll see applications that fall to that category and again we get the cover float style look in the top here.
At anytime at any interface on the App store we can tap on the search bar and enter search terms tap on search and if we are looking for a very specific application in this case we just downloaded a drawing pad, we can find in that way.
Finally we take a quick look at installing updates, so we tap on the updates icon in the bottom right here we can see any applications that we currently have that are in need of an update and we can tap on either each individual update to update it, tap on that and than choose install or we can choose to update all and then it will update any of the applications that we have, will go dark, we won't be able to launch them until they are finished updated.
