Hi, I’m Andy Walker and I'm the Executive Producer of Butterscotch.com. This is another episode of iPhone basics and today, I'm going to show you how to send a text message on your iPhone. So very simply to get started and of course actually let's just talk a bit what a text messages.
Text messages a short message under 128 characters that you can send between phones. So if you know somebody’s cell phone number you can actually send them a text message that they’ll receive and you have to read on their phone as well.
So I’m going to show you how to send one right now and we’re going to do it by clicking on the SMS icon here. Now, if it’s not in the bottom row of your iPhone in the dock then it will be in up here somewhere. You may want to browse through and see. It is usually on the main screen though.
So I'm going to start by touching it, starting it up and let's see if we got on property and I want to cancel this because this is from earlier message so I'm going to start by pushing this icon here as you can see. This a new one and you can answer either a person’s or you can fine them in your contact list like this and choose their cell phone or you can just type in their cell phone number.
So if they’re international, you’re going to type a plus sign and then you’re going to type the country code and then the area code and then the phone number. Now this will vary of course depending on where you live and what you provider requires. It is a standard that the plus sign sort of the extended long distance access, the country code and then the local number.
Certainly you can’t get away without putting the plus sign in so for example if I type
4165350123 that’s a phone number with an area code in North America but depending on where are the world you need to type their phone number in some capacity until you figure out hot it works.
Now, I've enter the phone number of the person. I’m going to hit the text field feel here as you see the typing soft keyboard will come up so I’m going to type hello, so because I mistype that here and suggesting Howard. Okay, well maybe we were just trying type in away, hello Howard and put some space bar to select what is suggested and I’m going to go to the other screen by pushing 123. I'm back to the main keyboard ABC, how are you and the question mark and so I’m go to my extended keyboard here and put question mark and simply I’m going to hit send.
This will send it to this phone number on the person that will receive it and that’s pretty much all you do. Now, to receive a text a message you’ll be alerted. I’ll show you that. In this area just like you see a three there or 150 or one that just shows things that draw your attentions so you’ll see a one, two or three or number here that shows how many text messages you’ve received.
So if you see that or you see a little alert on the screen that says hey you received the text message then you're going to want to select SMS and then you’re going to look on this list to see what text messages have been received and to read it. So all you're going to do is you’re going to touch it and then read what’s on the screen here. To respond, so just touch there and say it will response. Thanks and send again the message off.
That’s all there is to it text really for text messages on the iPhone. Hope that was helpful for you and I hope you’re enjoying these tutorials series of iPhone basics. You can find more like this in this series and also other topics at Butterscotch.com. See you next time.
