Hey, I’m Shawn from Sprinkler Daddy and in this video I just wanted to talk a little bit about the difference between a dura-brand manifold and a—just a PVC built manifold and kinda what the differences are and what’s the advantages are of using a dura-manifold versus just plain PVC.
So, basically here I’ve got a P VC manifold kinda ringed up a little bit here and basically all of these PVC T’s and PVC nipples as well. So they just thread together and they fit together pretty good but the disadvantage to this is that you’ve gotta use Teflon tape on all of the threads so you’re spending more time doing Teflon tape on the threads and then the other disadvantage to this is that you really gotta work to get all of these things thigh. So you gotta--a lot of times use a vice and a pipe wrench to get these pieces really tight when you’re working with thread and PVC.
Now, the other option is to use something like this which is a dura-manifold and basically the PVC that I had was 3/4 inch and this stuff is one inch. Now, you can’t use one inch PVC but this stuff is nice because it’s all swivel connections. So, as you can see here I’m just gonna take this apart, it goes together really easy and all of these fittings you don’t need to use any Teflon tape because you’ve got rubber O-rings on all of these things. So, all you have—all you really have to do is just put these guys together, the rubber O-rings will stop the leaking and you can put these together really quick. So, basically, the ease of installation and the higher quality—I guess PVC is why we like to go with dura-manifold versus a PVC assembled manifold. So, I hope that help you out when you’re considering your options for installing a sprinkler system manifold.
